01 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W:  Julian, how was Hawaii?
M:  It was really great!
W: Glad to hear it! I’ve  been searching the Internet  to go there over the winter with my sister.
M:  Oh, you’re going to love it.
W:  Yeah, I can’t wait. How was the food?
M: So good, even the free breakfast at the hotel. Everywhere we ate at for lunch and dinner was really good.
W: Could you recommend some places that aren’t too pricy?
M:  Sure. I’ll email you a list of some.
W: Thanks. And you stayed at Kawanu Hotel, didn’t you? I heard that it’s very close to the shopping mall, so we’re thinking about staying there. How was it?
M: Well, I don’t recommend it. There was a lot of construction going on around the hotel, so it was very noisy. And it won’t be finished until next spring.
W:  Oh, that must have been pretty uncomfortable.
M: Yeah.
W: I’ll mention that to my sister. Thanks for the information.

02 정답 ①
[Script & Translation] [Cell phone rings.] W: Hi, Lukas.
M:  Hey, Chloe. Do you want to go mountain biking this
weekend?
W:  I wish I could, but I can’t.
M: Oh, does your leg still hurt from falling off your bike last weekend?
W: It’s a little sore, but I can ride. It’s a good thing, though, that I was wearing a helmet.
M: For sure! What did your mom say when she saw your leg?
W: She was worried. But she was glad it wasn’t worse, especially when she saw how damaged my bike was.
M:  Oh,  is  that why  you  can’t bike  this weekend?
Because you haven’t gotten your bike fixed yet?
W: No, I got it repaired already. It wasn’t even that expensive to fix.
M: That’s good. So you’re just relaxing at home this weekend?
W: No. I’ve got to work Saturday and Sunday at my part-time job. My coworker’s on vacation. That’s why I can’t ride.
M: Oh, I see.

03 정답 ④
[Script & Translation]
W: Hello. Thanks for stopping by Sunshine Dinner Cruises. What can I do for you?
M: Hello. Are tickets for tonight’s dinner cruise still available?
W: Yes. There are still tickets left for the 7 p.m. and 9
p.m. cruises.
M: Perfect! Then I want tickets for two adults and one child for the 7 p.m. cruise.
W: Okay. The adult tickets are $100 each. And how old is your child?
M:  He’s 9.
W: All right. Under 5 he’d be free, but since he’s over 5, it’s $50 for him. And are you possibly staying at the Westwood Hotel across the street?
M:  Yes, we are. Do we get a discount?
W: Yes. Westwood guests get 10% off the ticket price. I just need to see your room key.
M:  That’s great. [Pause] Here it is.
W:  Thanks. And how would you like to pay?
M:  By cash. Here you are.

04 정답 ②
[Script & Translation]
M:  Hello. Is there anything I can help you with?
W:  Yes. I need to make a bulk order of plastic binders.
M:  Okay. What kind are you looking for?
W: Well, I need some A4 size ones and some B4 size ones.
M: All right. Here are our basic A4 size and B4 size binders.
W: These are exactly what I need. How much are they a piece?
M: The A4 size ones are six dollars each, and the B4 size ones are nine dollars each.
W:  Okay. I need one hundred of each.
M: All right. Since you’re ordering so many, I’ll give you a 10 percent discount from the total.
W: Great, thanks! And are you able to print a school logo on the cover of the binders?
M: Sure. We can print your logo on the whole lot for ten dollars. That’s added on after the discounted price on the binders.
W:  Great. Please do that.

05 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W:  Hi. Can I help you find anything?
M:  Yes. Where are aquarium filters?
W:  They’re right over here. Just follow me.
M: Thanks. My aquarium is 30 gallons. I think you have filters for that size.
W: We sure do. These two models should work. This one is 20 dollars and this one is 30 dollars. They’ll both do the trick, but the more expensive one would definitely do a better job.
M: Okay, I don’t mind paying more. I’ll take the one you say is better. And I just need some fish food.
W: That’s in the next aisle over. What kind of fish do you have?
M:  I have 10 big goldfish.
W: Then I’d recommend this goldfish food. It’s 20 dollars a bag.
M:  Perfect. This is the one I normally use.
W: Oh, good. And you’ll get 20% off the goldfish food if you buy two bags.
M:  Great. Then I’ll take two.
W:  All right. Will that be all?
M:  Yes. I’ll pay with my credit card.

06 정답 ④
[Script & Translation]
W: Aiden, have you finished packing for your trekking trip to New Zealand?
M:  Just about.
W: That’s good. I’ve heard there are a lot of great trekking courses in New Zealand. Which one are you trekking?
M: It’s called the Milford Track. It generally takes four days to complete the course. The scenery is amazing.
W:  Cool! How long is it?
M:  It’s about 53 kilometers.
W: Wow, that’s pretty long. Do you plan on camping at night?
M: No, camping is not permitted. They want to protect the environment. So I had to book huts. It’s pretty expensive, actually. It’s $140 per night.
W: That is a lot. But I think it’s a good idea they don’t allow camping.
M: Yeah. They even limit the number of trekkers to 90 people a day to protect the environment.
W:  I see. You must be really excited.
M:  I am. I can’t wait.

07 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W:  Finally we’re here. This building is Burj Khalifa.
M: Is this the one you mentioned as the tallest building in the world?
W:  Yes, it was once called Burj Dubai.
M:  I see. Do you know how tall it is?
W: It’s about 830 meters tall and that’s about 200 meters higher than the second tallest building.
M:  Wow! That’s impressive. When was it built?
W: The construction started in 2004 and it was completed in 2009.
M:  Do you know who designed it?
W: It was designed by Adrian D. Smith, an American architect.
M: I see. I think the views from the top must be spectacular.
W:  There’s an observation deck on the 124th floor.
M:  Okay. Then let’s go there.

08 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W: Ryan, I just received an email about this year’s Dufftown Jazz Festival.
M: That’s the annual jazz festival we went to last year, right?
W:  Yeah. It’ll be held in Seminole Park like last year.
M:  Oh, cool. When is it?
W:  June 12th to the 15th.
M: Really? My cousin will be here to see me at that time. We should all go together.
W: Great idea! And it’ll be much bigger than last year. This year, 20 bands will play to celebrate the festival’s 20th anniversary.
M:  Wow, that’s great.
W: Yeah. And there will be special events like fireworks and fan signing events.
M: That sounds awesome! Does it say how to reserve tickets?
W: Yes. Tickets are available on the festival website starting this Friday.
M: I see. I’ll go to the website on Friday to reserve tickets then.
여: Ryan, 나는 올해 Dufftown 재즈 페스티벌에 관한 이메일 을 방금 받았어.

09 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W: Hello, students of the plant growing course. Yesterday you learned about broccoli. Today, I’ll show you how to grow cauliflower. Cauliflower grows best in cooler climates, from 18 to 22 degrees Celsius. It grows best in moist soil, but water should not be overflowing in the soil. It can be planted outside from seed or as young plants, but planting young plants is much better. When planting   seeds or young plants, the space between them should be about 60 cm. It must be harvested before it becomes hot summer. If you grow cauliflower based on    my
instructions, you’ll be able to produce a good crop. Thank you.

10 정답 ⑤
[Script & Translation]
M: Hello, everyone. I’m John Everton from the Kimberly Career Center. I’m here to talk about the upcoming 2020 Summer Career Camp. If you’re interested in finding out what jobs are fit for you, this camp is for you. It’ll be held from Tuesday, July 14 to Friday, July 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12. This includes students going into grade 10 this fall. At the camp, there will be over 20 workshops with individual and group activities to help you learn about various career opportunities. The cost of the camp is $75, and it doesn’t include daily transportation. You won’t earn any school credits by attending the workshops of the camp. You can download the application form and see more information at kimberlycareercenter. org. Don’t miss out!

11 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W:  Alfred, you’re looking at cameras on the Internet.
M: Yeah, so I wanted to ask for your help. I heard you know a lot about cameras.
W:  You mean you want me to help you choose one?
M:  Exactly. I don’t know which to choose.
W: Well, first of all, what price range do you have in mind?
M:  I don’t want to spend more than $600.
W: Okay. Then, a mirrorless camera body would be better.
M:  What’s the difference between the two?
W: The mirrorless camera is easier to carry than a DSLR camera.
M: I see. Then I’ll get something mirrorless. And  what is ISO?
W: The higher the ISO number, the easier it is to take pictures in the dark. I recommend you get a camera with a max ISO of over 6400.
M:  Okay. I’ll follow your advice.
W: Good. And you should buy a camera with Wi-Fi connection if you want to send your photos by e-mail or social media.
M:  Right. Then, I’ll buy this one.

12 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
M: Honey, I found a website where we can rent a car for our family trip.
W:  Okay, good. Let’s see.
M: This car would definitely be too small. It only fits four people.
W:  Yeah, we need something bigger than that.
M: This one looks really good. But I think spending more than $100 a day is too much.
W: I think so, too. We’re already spending a lot of money preparing for the trip.
M: For sure. It looks like there are two types of insurance. Which one should we get?
W: Hmm.... I’ve heard that it’s better to get full- coverage insurance, just in case.
M: Yeah, it’s a little more money, but it’s worth it because it has a wider coverage.
W: Yeah. So between these two left, which do you think is better? Do we need the car return service?
M: Well, we’re returning a car at the airport, so we don’t need that service.
W:  Okay, then let’s rent this car.
M:  All right.

[Script & Translation]
M: Ms. Roberts, we’re going on a business trip to New York City next week. Why don’t we book the flight on this website?
W: Okay, Mr. White. Let’s take a look at the flight schedule.
M:  Sure. How much can we spend on the flight?
W: Our company policy doesn’t allow us to spend more than $800 per ticket.
M: I see. And what about the departure time? I have to take my daughter to daycare early in the morning that day.
W:  Then how about choosing a flight after 9 a.m.?
M:  That’ll be great. Which airport should we arrive at?
W:  JFK is closer to the company we’re visiting.
M:  Oh, you’re right. Let’s go there.
W:  Then we have two options left, nonstop or one stop.
M: I don’t want to spend hours waiting for a connecting flight.
W:  Me, neither. We should choose the nonstop flight.
M:  Okay. Let’s book the flight now.

1 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
M:  Hello, may I help you?
W:  Hi. I’d like to buy a drone.
M: All right. These are the five models we have right now.
W: My friend recommended I get one with at least 20 minutes of flight time.
M: That’s a great idea. And drones can accidentally bump into things, so having one with collision avoidance technology is better.
W: I’ll take one of these models with that technology then.
M:  All right.
W: Hmm, this one looks great, but $240 is out of my budget.
M: Then between the remaining two, there’s just a small price difference. They come with different free gifts though.
W: I’d rather get this model that comes with a tool repair kit. I already have a carrying case at home.
M:  Okay, then I’ll go grab one for you in the back.

2 정답 ①
[Script & Translation]
W:  Honey, what’s that flyer for?
M: This is for fall classes at Middleton Community Center. I’d like to take one of them.
W:  Good idea. Which one are you thinking about?
M: They all seem interesting, but Pilates is more than I want to pay.
W: Yeah, that’s pretty expensive. And don’t take anything on the weekend. We’re always busy on weekends.
M:  Yeah, something during the week would be better.
W: I agree. Do you care about which location you go to? They’re both about the same distance from home.
M:  Yeah, but the downtown ones are closer to my work, so those would be better.
W: Then it just comes down to whether you’d like to take a class before work or after work.
M: I’d rather take this one in the morning. Then I’d have a lot of energy when I get to work.
W:  Sounds good.

3 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W:  Good morning, Jim.
M: Good morning, Cathy. I’m sorry I’m late. As I texted you, traffic was really bad this morning.
W: That’s okay. Since I knew you were going to be late, I made some changes to your pickup schedule.
M: Okay.
W: I sent another driver to Ron Regency to pick up Paul.
M: All right. Then I’ll go to JK Marquis for the 9:10 pickup.
W:  Yes. After that, stop  by  Holidays Hotel for  Jose.
That is the Holidays Hotel on Biscayne Street.
M: Okay.
W: And the 9:30 pickup got canceled, so you don’t have to go to Wideham to pick up Ivan.
M: All right. Then lastly I’ll go straight to C Hotel for Emerson. Is that all?
W: Yes.
M: Okay. Thanks for understanding my traffic situation this morning. See you when I get back.

4 정답 ②
[Script & Translation]
M: Honey, I found a website that sells reusable straw sets. Why don’t we get a set?
W:  That’s a good idea. We waste so many straws.
M:  Which set would you like to buy?
W: They all look nice, but I don’t think we should get glass straws. They’d break too easily.
M:  Good point. Let’s get one of the other four sets.
W: How about this one? It comes with more straws than the other sets.
M:  Yeah, but I’d like at least some curved straws.
W: All right. Then it’s among these three. Hold on. This one’s pretty expensive. Spending more than $20 seems like too much.
M:  I agree. Then we have two options left.
W: What about this set? It comes with more cleaning brushes.
M:  Okay. Let’s buy it.

5 정답 ①
[Script & Translation]
W:  What’s that, Oliver?
M: It’s a flyer for the Beaver Creek Summer School Classes. They have so many cool classes.
W:  If you’d like, you can join one.
M: Really, Mom? Thanks! Let’s see. All of them seem good except this Children’s Circus class.
W: I know you’re not a big fan of circuses. Then what about this one? You like drawing and painting.
M:  That’s true, but aren’t we going camping that week?
W: Oh yeah, that’s right. We’re camping July 21st to the 28th. What do you think about the remaining three?
M: I think this one ends too late. It ends at 4:30 p.m., so it’ll be hard to make my swimming lessons at 5 p.m.
W:  Then you have to choose between these two.
M: I think this would be better. It’s more expensive though.
W:  No problem. It sounds like a good one.

6 정답 ①
[Script & Translation]
M:  What are you looking at, honey?
W: It’s a brochure from Sunlight Art Gallery. There are lots of new programs. Have a look.
M: Oh, all of them sound interesting. Why don’t we go there this weekend?
W:  Good  idea. We’ve  already been  to  Early Rubens
though.
M: Yeah. It was good. Let’s try a new one this time.
What do you think of this one?
W: It sounds interesting, but we have plans to eat brunch with my parents this Sunday morning.
M: That’s right. Then why don’t we go to this one after brunch? It’s open until 5:30 p.m.
W: Okay, let’s do that. And I’d like to attend this program on Saturday, too. What do you think?
M: It sounds interesting. And it’s not expensive. It’s less than $20. Let’s do it.
W:  Sounds good.
M:  Great. Could we also do this one too on    Saturday?
It’s quite expensive though.
W:  I think two programs are enough for one weekend.
M:  You’re right.

W: Hi, Ross. How’s everything going for our Ten Year Class Reunion Party?
M:  I think we’re done, Jennifer.
W:  Then let’s go over what we’ve prepared.
M: I already booked the Silver Corral Restaurant for the party.
W: Good. It must have been very difficult to get a reservation because our party is on December 24th.
M:  Yeah, we were lucky.
W:  What food will they serve?
M: Their steak, spaghetti, and pizza are famous, so that’s what I ordered.
W: Sounds delicious. And the souvenirs for the party are ready, too.
M:  You ordered mugs for souvenirs, right?
W:  Yes, I did. I’ll bring them that day.
M:  Perfect. It’s going to be a great party.

W: Brad, check out this ad in the newspaper. Sheldon High School is hiring a new school bus driver.
M:  Really? I should apply.
W:  When did you get your bus driver’s license?
M: I got it 6 years ago. Since then I’ve occasionally worked part-time as a school bus driver.
W: Okay, great. Because they require you to have had a valid license for at least 3 years.
M:  Are there any other requirements?
W: Yeah. You must be over 21 years old, which you clearly are.
M:  All right. Anything else?
W: You just need to pass a physical examination and a criminal background check.
M:   No problem. Does it say how much the pay is?
W: It says it’s $25 per hour and you get healthcare benefits.
M:   That’s not bad. Can I take that ad?
W:   Sure. Here you go.

W: Pete, this is a funny photo! You look like a giant in a fairy tale!
M:  Yeah. It’s when I went to Tiny Town last summer.
W:  Where is that?
M: It’s in Morrison, Colorado. It’s the oldest miniature park in the United States.
W:  Really? When was it built?
M:  In 1921.
W: I wonder who came up with the idea of building it at that time.
M: A businessman named George Turner built it for his daughter. If you can, you should go there sometime.
W: I’d love to! I’ll ask my dad to take me there this winter break.
M: Actually, it’s not open then. It’s only open from May to September, when it’s warm.
W: I see. Then I’ll ask him if we can go there next summer.
M:   You’ll love it.

M: Good morning, class. Today, we’ll talk about dodos: flightless birds that survived for several million years on an island in the Indian Ocean with unfriendly soil and climate. In the 1660s,   within a century after Dutch sailors landed on the island, they disappeared. It’s believed they were hunted to extinction because they were tasty and easy to hunt. This may not be true, though. Scientists examined the food waste from early settlements and found no dodo bones, so dodos weren’t being eaten. Also, dodos lived in thick forests and weren’t easy to hunt. Most likely, they went extinct because people brought ship rats and other animals with them. Those animals spread across the island, eating dodo eggs and competing against dodos for food. Now, let’s look at some pictures of dodos.

W: Hi. I have some questions about your personal training sessions.
M:  Sure. What would you like to know?
W:  First of all, how much are they?
M:  A  5-session plan is  $400 and  a  10-session plan is
$700.
W:  Okay. And do you have many female trainers?
M: Yeah. About half of the trainers are female. And they all have at least 5 years of training experience.
W:  Great. Could you tell me about the programs available?
M: There are a variety of programs, such as muscular strengthening, diet and posture-correcting.
W:  Sounds good. How do I sign up for one?
M: You can do that on our website, www.getfitfitness. com. It’s simple.

M:  Amelia, are you free this Friday afternoon?
W:  Yes,  I  don’t have  any afternoon classes that  day.
Why?
M: I was wondering if you’d like to go to an architectural exhibition at the Vienna Applied Arts Museum. It’s called Beyond the Blue.
W:  Sure. That sounds cool.
M: I thought you’d like to go. The exhibition started back in March and ends this Friday.
W:  Whose works are being displayed?
M: They’re showing the works by the Austrian architects who founded Coop Himmelblau.
W: Oh, I’ve heard of them. They’re popular for their modern concepts and designs.

M: Yeah. They don’t put walls, pillars, or roofs in their architecture.
W:  That’s amazing.
M: I heard the exhibition is full of creative uses of metal and glass.
W:  Really? I can’t wait to see their work in person.

M: Judy, are you ready for the quiz in biology class tomorrow?
W:  Yeah. How about asking questions to each other?
M: Okay. I’ll quiz you first. Do you know how desert foxes or desert hares survive the desert heat?
W: They use their huge ears to control their temperature, right?
M:  Good. Then how about cattle?
W:  They lower their body temperature by sweating.

M: Right. Which animals go into holes or under rocks when it’s hot?
W:  Reptiles like snakes do so.
M: Correct! Wow, you seem to have studied hard for the quiz.
W: You’re right. Now, let me ask you a few questions this time. What are the animals that like to sleep when it’s too hot?
M:  Toads and snails.
W: Okay. One more question. How do desert lizards behave to survive in extreme temperatures?
M:  They run quickly, right?
W: Yes. They run quickly to minimize contact with the hot ground.

W: Hello, listeners. I’m Vanessa Anderson with One- Minute Living, where I give you useful home, school and work tips. Everybody knows the importance of recycling paper. But did you know that not all types of paper can be recycled? So before just throwing all of your paper together to get recycled, make sure it can actually be recycled. First, avoid folding paper too much. If it’s been folded too much, it can’t be recycled. Also, some paper like napkins and receipts cannot be recycled. So throw them away in the regular trash. And some paper has sticky glue on it. In order to have it recycled, you must remove the glue from the paper. Follow these tips to make sure you’re recycling the right way. Join me tomorrow for more tips on living healthy.

M:  Hey, Justine.
W:  Hey, Mark. What are you looking at?
M:  Some old paintings.
W: I know they’re paintings of fruit, but are these watermelons and bananas? They look so different from ones today.
M: Yeah they really do, don’t they? They’re early watermelons and bananas. Over time, humans developed new breeds, like the good-tasting ones we have today.
W: Amazing! I thought fruits had always been the same. M: Actually, in the past, a lot of plants we eat nowadays weren’t even edible. They were just wild plants.
W: Oh, so really it’s changing plant breeds that has changed what humans can eat.
M: Yeah, but not just whether something is edible or not. Changing plant breeds has also increased the nutrients in food.
W:  I had no idea about that.
M: So people around the world have always been trying to develop new, better crops.
W: Oh, I see. From now on, whenever I eat fruit, I’m going to wonder what it used to look like.

W:  Hello, everyone. I’m Jenny Phillips, host of   People
& Economy. Today’s topic is social media. Although it can be a useful tool, there are downsides of using social media for businesses. First, managing social media accounts, including responding to feedback, requires a lot of  resources. This can  mean having to hire and train new employees. Producing social media content, such as advertisements and videos, can be costly. Also, relying so much on social media can be impersonal. Using it to push for sales without engaging with customers may turn off people who want a more personal relationship. Keep all these in mind when building your business.

05 정답 ②
[Script & Translation]
W: Lucas, Mr. Johnson’s not in yet. Does he have a business trip today?
M: No. He had to take the day off because he caught the flu. He has to stay home and rest.
W:  That’s too bad. Do you think he got sick at work?
M: Maybe. The air in the office is very dry. We should get some plants.
W: Plants would be nice. I read they can help keep rooms more humid.
M:  We could use them! It’s so dry in here.
W: I know. My skin is always dried out and itchy after working all day at the office.
M: Me too. I was thinking plants would be good to regulate the temperature.
W: Oh, yeah! They do both. Rapid changes in temperature can weaken your immune system, so plants are helpful there too.
M: I’ll suggest getting some office plants for our health at our next team meeting.
W: Great.
여: Lucas, Johnson 씨가 아직 보이지 않네요. 그가 오늘 출장

[Script & Translation]
W: Luke, I noticed you didn’t take many notes in chemistry class today.
M: I could barely hear the professor from where we were sitting in the back.
W:  Really? I was able to hear him.
M: I just feel like my hearing has been getting worse recently.
W: Maybe it’s because you always listen to your music so loud. I think exposure to high volume is the most common cause of hearing loss.
M:  I don’t think it’s that loud.
W: Really? You always have the volume up so high that I can hear the songs you’re listening to. That may cause a hearing problem.
M: You can? I’ve just gotten so used to the volume  that I didn’t even think it was that loud.
W: Your ears must’ve adapted to the high volume, which is why you’re having trouble hearing.
M:  That makes sense.

07 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
W:  Good afternoon. What can I do for you?
M: Hi. I need some help in starting my new business around here.
W: You’ve come to the right place. What area do you have in mind?
M:  I’d like to rent in the Stonebridge neighborhood.
W: We have lots of office spaces for rent there. About what size are you looking for?
M:  Something around 33 square meters.
W: Okay.
M: And I’d really like something near the subway station.
W:  All right. And what is your price range?
M: I’m hoping to find something less than $1,000 a month, including utilities.
W: Let me check on our rental website. [Typing sound] Here we go. There’s one available in the Pine Building. Would you like to go take a look at it?
M: Sure.

08 정답 ①
[Script & Translation]
M:  Wow! These are amazing!
W:  Thanks. Is this your first visit?
M:  Yes. I’ve never seen an exhibition like this.
W: Many visitors say that. If you have any questions about my work, let me know and I can answer them.
M: Good. Actually, I’m wondering what inspired you to carve soap this way.
W: Well, I thought it’d be a good material to use to express the passage of time.
M: I see. That explains why most of your pieces are reproductions of ancient remains.
W: Right. I want to convey that like those things, my works don’t lose their value over time.
M: Oh, I saw some soap sculptures in the bathroom. Are they yours too?
W: Yes, I put them there to be used by the gallery visitors.
M:  I see. Thanks for your kind explanation.
W:  My pleasure!

[Script & Translation]
[Cell phone rings.]
W: Hi, Justice. I texted you a picture of the poster I made for our concert a few minutes ago. Did you get it?
M:  Yeah. I like it. I’m looking at it.
W: That’s good. Should I keep the concert title, Poems with Music, at the top?
M:  Yeah. It looks good there.
W: Okay. Do you think the guitar is too big? It takes up almost the entire left side of the poster.
M: I think it’s perfect. I wouldn’t want it any smaller. And I like three birds sitting on musical notes below the concert title.
W:  I just added those right before I texted you.
M: And I love your idea of drawing the bench with a girl who is reading a book on it.
W:  That represents the poetry reading in our concert.
M:  Great idea.
W: And I put the time and place below the bench. What do you think?
M:  Looks good to me. Great job!

W:  What are you looking at, honey?
M: A picture from Brian. He just got back from a family trip. Come here and look at this.
W: Oh, it was a good idea to watch a movie outdoors during the trip. I like the screen right on the outside of the camping car.
M:  Yeah, isn’t it cool?
W: Yeah. The ball-shaped light bulbs hanging from this line are really cool, too.
M: Look at Brian and his wife standing below the bulbs.
They look so happy.
W: He’s putting his arm around his wife’s shoulders. So sweet!
M: Yeah. And I think it was a good idea to bring folding chairs. Their three kids are watching movies on them.

W: Oh, I love the campfire next to the kids. I’m sure they really loved this trip. Someday we should plan a trip like this with our kids.
M: Definitely! I’ll ask Brian about where they booked their trip.
W:  Sounds good!

W: Dad, where are we going for Grandpa’s 80th birthday next Sunday?
M:  I’ve booked a party room at Parkview Restaurant.
W: Oh, good. A lot of relatives are going to be there, right?
M:  Yeah,  pretty much all of them are coming.   They

were all excited when I sent out invitations. Even Aunt Maria is coming from Sydney.
W:  Really? Does Grandpa know?
M: No. He’s going to be so surprised. She’ll get here this Friday. I’m going to pick her up at the airport.
W:  Can I go with you? I’d like to welcome her there.
M: Sorry, but I don’t think so. When her flight lands, you’ll still be in school.
W:  I see. She’s staying with us, right?
M:  Yeah. In your room, if you don’t mind.
W: Of course I don’t mind. Then I’ll have to clean up my room.
M: That’d be great. While you are doing that, I’ll get some clean bed sheets for your aunt.
W: Okay.

12 정답 ③
[Script & Translation]
M: Honey, how are your feet feeling from all the walking we did today?
W: Much better. Soaking them in warm water was a good idea.
M: That’s good. We plan on doing a lot of sightseeing again tomorrow. Will you be okay?
W: Well, I’m a little worried. My shoes are so uncomfortable.
M:  It’s too bad you didn’t bring your other pair.
W:  I know. I just completely forgot to pack them.
M: Why don’t you buy some new shoes tomorrow morning? I’m sure there’s a shoe store near our hotel.
W: Okay. We’re going on a traditional market tour tomorrow morning, aren’t we?
M:  Yes. It’ll start at 10:30.
W: Then we don’t have much time to shop for shoes before that. We should figure out where there’s a shoe store now.
M: I’ll do that on my smartphone for you. Just get some rest.
W:  That’ll be great. Thanks.

M:  Good morning, Jane.
W:  Good morning, Mr. Smith.
M: Thanks for volunteering to work at our senior citizen’s center again.
W: I’m happy to help. And I brought some snacks for the elderly.
M: How considerate of you! Last time you donated some books. Everyone really enjoyed reading them.
W: It was my pleasure. So, what am I supposed to do today? Should I prepare lunch like I did before?
M: There are some other volunteers today, and they’ll do that work.
W:  Good. Then what would you like me to do?
M: Well, you could do the dishes or clean the laundry room.
W:  I’m good at washing dishes. So I’ll do that.
M: Great. We’ll have someone else clean the laundry room.

M:  Excuse me.
W:  Yes. How can I help you?
M: I lost a book that I checked out and I’m not sure what to do.
W: Okay. You may buy a copy of the same book for the library or pay the cost of the lost book.
M: I tried to buy one at the bookstore downtown, but unfortunately it’s out of stock right now.
W:  Then you can just pay the cost of the book.
M:  Okay. Can I pay it now?
W: Sure. I need to check the price of the book. May I see your library card, please?
M:  Of course. [Pause] Here it is.
W: Thanks. [Typing sound] Is the lost book True to Our Feelings?
M: Yes.
W: All right. I’ll check the price of the book. Wait a moment, please.
M:  Okay, thanks.

M: Sophia, we have a problem with our school trip next week.
W:  What do you mean, Brian?
M: It’s supposed to rain all next week according to the weather forecast.
W:  Oh, no. And it’s too late to change the date.
M: Right. That’s too bad because I know the students have been really looking forward to going to the S&J Amusement Park.
W:  I know, but I think we have to change the place.
M:  Do you have any place in mind?
W: How about going to the Museum of Modern Art instead?
M: That’s a good idea, but it’s too small for all of our students. Oh, I’ve got an idea! How about the Play K-Pop theme park? Actually, it’s the second favorite place our students want to visit.
W:  Perfect. The students will love that place.

M: Then, can you call a teachers’ meeting to discuss the change of our school trip? I’ll see if we can reserve tickets to the park.
W:  Okay, I will.

M:  Angela, do you have any classes this afternoon?
W:  No, I don’t, but I have a few things to do. Why?
M:  I was going to see if you’d like to go to the   musical
Hero with me.

W:  I’d like to, but I thought you were going with Jack.
M: I was supposed to, but unfortunately he sprained his ankle while playing soccer yesterday and needs to just stay home.
W: That’s too bad. I wish I could go to the musical with you, but I’m afraid I can’t.
M:  Why? What do you have to do this afternoon?
W:  I need to take my grandma to the airport, and go   to a watch repair shop to have my watch with broken glass fixed.
M:  Oh, I think I can go to the repair shop for you.
W:  Really? That’d save me some time.
M: No problem. Just give me your watch, and tell me where the shop is located.
W: Okay, thanks a lot. I think I can go to the musical with you then.

M: Pam, how much time do we have before Mom and Dad come back?
W:  Well, we have about an hour.
M:  Oh, then I need to hurry up.
W: You’re not done cooking yet? This is supposed to be a surprise wedding anniversary party for Mom and Dad, so you’d better finish quickly.
M: I know. I’ll be done in about 20 minutes. Have you finished making an anniversary card for them?
W: Yeah. And I decorated the living room with balloons.
M: Thanks. I didn’t realize it’d take so long to cook everything.
W: That’s okay. You’re almost done. Where’s the cake that you ordered? You said you’d pick it up from the bakery.
M: Oh, I totally forgot. Pam, sorry but can you do that for me? I need to finish cooking.
W: Okay. And when I come back, I’ll help you clean the kitchen.
M:  Thank you so much.

M:  Liz, the dance club audition is tomorrow    morning.
Do you know how many applicants there are?
W: Yeah. I checked the club’s blog. There are 15 applicants. Here’s the list.
M: Oh, that’s more than I expected. Our promotional posters must have worked!
W:  Yeah,  I  guess so.  Have  you  confirmed with Mr.
Wilkins that he’s going to judge the audition?
M: Yes, I just talked to him. The music files for the audition are ready, right?
W: Sure. I’ve downloaded them onto the computer this morning.
M: Great. Oh, what about speakers? Remember we were going to try to find some louder ones than ours?
W: Yeah. I asked the music teacher yesterday if we could borrow some speakers and she said yes. I’ll go get them now.
M: Great. I’ll go check the video camera to record the auditions.
W:  Okay. See you in a while.

W: Hi, Mr. Swift. I’m getting things ready for the local theater company performance that’s this Friday.
M: Oh, I almost forgot that they’re coming to our school this Friday. So, you’re decorating the stage for the performance.
W: Yes. I have so many things to do. Mr. Swift, do you have some time now?
M:  Sure. I can help you if you want.
W:  Great! Thank you so much.
M: No problem. I see a stack of posters over there. I can put them up on the bulletin boards if you’d like.
W: Someone else is working on that. Oh, we need to set up a table in front of the entrance.
M:  You mean a table for pamphlets?
W: Right. Could you do that for me? You can use the big table in the art room.
M:  Okay. Just leave it to me.
W: Great, thanks! I’m going to go check the lights on the stage.

M: Aunt Mary sent me a picture. She’s already set up a room for Peter.
W: Wow! She’s excited for him to stay during the winter vacation, isn’t she?
M: Yes, she is. I like the blanket with the checkered pattern on the bed.
W: I’m sure it must be very warm. Look at the chair below the window.
M:  It looks comfortable. He could sit there and read.
W: Right. I guess that’s why Aunt Mary put the bookcase next to it.
M: That makes sense. Oh, there’s a toy horse in the corner.
W:  It looks real. I think it’s a gift for Peter.
M: Yeah, I remember she mentioned it. And do you see the round mirror on the wall?
W:  It’s nice. It looks like the one Peter has here at home.

W:  Welcome back home, honey.
M: Thanks. It’s nice to be back from that long business trip. Wow, you rearranged the living room.
W: Yes. I replaced the curtains with blinds. Do you like them?
M: They’re much better. I think blinds were a good choice. They are easier to clean than curtains.
W: Right. What do you think of the picture hung between the windows? I got our recent family picture framed.
M:  Perfect. And you got two new cushions for the sofa.
W: Yes. The children really like them because they’re heart-shaped. Did you notice the plant beside the lamp?
M: Oh, I like it. I heard houseplants are good for our health.
W:  Yeah. I’d like to get more later.
M: That’d be nice. And I like the new striped rug on the floor. Where did you get it?
W:  At the home goods store in the mall. It was 50% off.
M:  Great deal! I love what you’ve done, honey.
W: Thanks.

M:  Hello. May I help you?
W: Yes. I’m looking for a Bluetooth speaker. It’s a high school graduation present for my son.
M: All right. We have speakers in many shapes. This cone-shaped one is on sale.
W:  My son specifically said he wanted something  cool.
He wouldn’t like a cone.
M:  How about one of these more modern designs?
W: One of those might work. This cube-shaped one is nice. It has a case, but does it have a wrist strap?
M: No, it doesn’t. But we have the same cube model with a wrist strap. It just doesn’t come with a case.
W: Okay, let me think. Hmm. Oh, could you show me that speaker over there?
M:  The pyramid-shaped speaker?
W:  Yeah. The design is unique and it has a case.
M: Actually, this model comes with both a case and a wrist strap.

W:  Yes, I do want that. I’ll take one.

M:  Mom, here’s the poster I painted for my  homework.
What do you think?
W: It’s great! Is it for World Environment Day next week?
M: Yeah. Each student has to make a poster about environmental protection. We’re going to hang the posters around the school.
W: Neat! I like the heart-shaped earth you painted in the top left corner.
M: It shows we need to love the earth. And I put “SAVE THE EARTH” under the earth.
W:  That’s a good idea. It’s almost like a smile.
M: What do you think of the triangular flag with a bird on it?
W:  It’s really cool. You’re so creative.
M: Thanks.
W: And I think it’s really great how you put recycling symbols in the two bicycle wheels.
M: I thought they’d look good there. And I wanted to emphasize recycling.
W:  The bicycle basket is full of flowers. I like them.
M:  I’m glad you like my work! Thanks, Mom.

M:  Mom, I’m home! I finished moving into the dorms.
W: Oh, good! How’s your dorm room? Did you take a picture of it?
M:  Yeah, here take a look.
W:  Oh, you hung your drawing under the clock.
M: Yes, the desk just below it is mine. And look! Here’s the lamp you bought me on my desk.
W: That’s nice. You have two windows so you’ll get a lot of sunlight.
M: Yeah, and my roommate put a houseplant between them.
W:  That’s a nice touch. Just don’t forget to water it!
M: My roommate and I joked about that! The desk next to the coat rack is his.
W: It looks like he really likes to read. His bookshelf is full of books.
M: Yeah. And he said anytime I want to read them I can.
W: He sounds really nice. Did he bring this round rug between the desks?
M: No, I did. My friends gave it to me as a move-in present.
W:  That’s nice of them. Your room looks great.

5 정답 ④
[Script & Translation]
M:  Mom, come here and look at this view!
W:  Wow!  It’s wonderful! See the U-shaped   walkway?
That’s where we’re going to stop next.
M:  Oh cool!
W:  Yeah. We’ll be able to walk over the water.
M: That’ll be fun. I also want to go on that deck under the walkway.
W:  Okay. We’ll do that too.
M: Why are there railroad tracks leading to the entrance of the walkway?
W: There used to be trains. But now the tracks are just a path for people.
M: Oh, I see. And those square rocks at the bottom of the cliff are unique. Most rocks are round.
W:  Right. They’re really unusual.
M:  Can we go on that boat near the lighthouse?
W:  I’m not sure, but we can ask when we get there.
M:  Okay. Let’s go!

6 정답 ④
[Script & Translation]
M: Ms. Robinson, I finished setting up the tables and chairs outside.
W: Great, thanks. Now we just need to figure out where to put the coffee mug sculpture.
M: How about putting it next to the entrance sign? W: That’s where we’re going to set out the menu. M:  Oh yeah, that’s right. You told me that earlier.
W: What do you think about putting the sculpture between the ordering counter and the stairs?
M: It’d look good there, but I think it’d be in the way because that’s where a lot of customers are going to be waiting for their drinks.
W:  Good point. Then how about next to the tree?
M: But a lot of people use those stairs. It’d just get in the way there, too.
W: Then how about under the clock? M: You mean next to the flower bed? W:  Yeah. I think it’d look good there.
M: I agree. Let’s put it there. And it’d be nice to have something around the fountain.
W:  Yeah. I’ll put a big planter next to the fountain.

M:  Hello, I’m Ted Benson. You must be Ms. Brown.
W: Hi, Mr. Benson. Thank you for sparing time for this interview. I’ve wanted to meet you since you won the “Best Rice Award.”
M:  I’m honored. I’m a regular reader of your magazine.
The articles are very informative.
W: Thank you. Can you tell me the secret to your success?
M: I grow rice without using any chemicals to kill harmful insects. It’s organic.
W:  How do you do that?
M:  I put ducks into my fields, and they eat the insects.
W:  So that’s how you grew the best rice in the  country.
What a great idea!
M: Yeah, that’s the know-how I’ve got from my 30 years of farming life.
W: Well, it’s amazing. May I take a picture of you in front of your rice fields for my magazine article?
M:  Go ahead.

[Script & Translation]
W: Excuse me, sir. Are we allowed to eat around the gardens?
M: No, ma’am. To protect the gardens, we no longer allow people to eat anywhere around the gardens. The number of visitors has just increased too much.
W:  Where can I eat then?
M: There’s a picnic area next to the rose garden. That’s the only place where you can eat.
W: All right. By the way, I heard that you expanded the gardens last year, right?
M: Yes. The newest garden has wild flowers from Africa. Make sure you see it if you haven’t yet.
W: Okay, thank you. Actually, I work for a fashion magazine, and this seems like a great place for a photo shoot. Would that be possible?
M: Sure. But you need permission first. After seeing the gardens, stop by the management office, where I work. I’ll help you.
W:  I will. Thank you.
M:  You’re welcome.

[Script & Translation]
W:  Hello, Mr. Young.
M:  Hello, Ms. Franklin.
W:  How’s your business going?
M: Not so good due to the unusually hot weather. Some of the vegetables in my store have been quickly going bad in the heat and aren’t selling well.
W:  I’m sorry to hear that.
M: So I wish there were a roof for our outdoor market that could block out the sun.
W: Well, as a member of the market management  team, I always try to help you. The management  office is going to install a roof to cover the aisles in our market as soon as possible.
M:  Oh, really? That’s great! That’ll really help.
W: I’m working on some promotional events to help sellers in our market.
M: That’s a great idea. I really appreciate your hard work to make the market a better place.
W: I’m glad to help out. That’s my job for all the sellers like you at this market.

[Script & Translation] [Telephone rings.] M: Hello?

W: Hello, Mr. White. This is Julia Lawrence from JJC Television Station.
M:  Hi, Ms. Lawrence. How is everything going?
W:  Pretty good. We  finally set a date for our   shooting.
It’ll be from April 1st to April 15th.
M: That sounds great. I’ll make sure that everything is ready, including accommodation and transportation.
W: Thank you. As I told you, ten people  including my staff and cameramen will go there. How is the weather there these days?
M: After the severely cold winter, it’s getting  warmer. In April it’ll be the perfect time for you to shoot a documentary about wild animals.
W: Great. I feel so relieved to have your local guidance there. You’re so knowledgeable about the area.
M: It’s exciting for me to be using my expertise in this shoot.
W: Thank you, Mr. White. My assistant producer will email you detailed information on our shooting schedule today.
M:  That sounds perfect.

[Script & Translation]
W:  Good morning, sir. May I help you?
M: Yes. I saw your ad that said you have many kinds of cars.
W:  Sure. Do you have any particular model in mind?
M: Something small, like a sedan. And an automatic. I need one for 3 days.
W:  Okay. These are the ones we have available now.
M:  Let’s see. How much is it for this car?
W:  It’s $50 a day.
M: Okay. I’ll take it. And can I return the car in Boston, not here?
W: Yes, you can. We have a location there. And there’s no extra charge.
M:  Great. Thanks.
W: You’re welcome. I just need to see your driver’s license.
M:  Here you are. And can I pay with a credit card?
W: Sure.
M:  Here is my credit card.
W: Okay. Sign here. I’ll go pull up the car for you. Let’s check it together.
M:  Yes. Thank you.

[Script & Translation] [Telephone rings.] W: Hello?
M: Hello, this is Officer Jon Taylor from the Philadelphia
Police Station. Can I talk to Jason Steven?
W:  Jason isn’t at home, but this is his mother.
M: Oh, hello, ma’am. Maybe your son told you, but last month he dropped off a briefcase at the police station that he had found on the street. The owner wanted to repay Jason’s kindness, but Jason refused.
W:  Yes, he told me about that.
M: Actually, we decided to select Jason as the winner of the Good Citizen of the Month Award.
W:  Really? I can’t believe it! Thank you!
M: His behavior perfectly demonstrates the type of outstanding citizens we want in the community.   So
I’d like to invite your family to participate in the award ceremony at 10 a.m. next Friday.
W:  Okay, we’ll be there.
M:  Great. It’ll be on the 1st floor of the station.
W: Okay. Thank you, Officer. I’ll let Jason know this good news right away.

6 정답 ③

W:  James, what are you doing here?
M:  Hey, Sarah. I just stopped by to get a new card. I lost

my wallet last week with my card in it.
W:  That’s too bad. Where did you lose it?
M: Somewhere at the amusement park, but I never found it. By the way, why are you here?
W:  I came to check out some books for writing a report.
M:  What is your report about?
W: It’s about the geographical distribution of plants. It’s due next week, but I’m just starting now.
M:  Oh, my! You didn’t leave yourself much time.
W: I know. I’ll be spending a lot of time in the reading room on this floor working on my report this week.
M: I hope you’ll finish your report in time. Well, I’ve got to get going. I have to go to the dentist. My appointment’s in 15 minutes.
W:  Okay. See you later.
여: James, 여기서 뭐 하니?

W:  Hi, Sam. How are you?
M:  Fine. How about you, Christine?
W:  I feel really good.
M: Wow! What happened to you? You usually say you’re tired.
W: Well, I changed how I sleep. I started sleeping on my left side, and it has improved my health.
M: Really?
W: Yeah. I’ve done it for a week, and my digestion has got better.
M: I didn’t know how we sleep has something to do with digestion.
W: It does. Sleeping on your left side helps the digestive process because your stomach is on the left.
M: I can see that. But does improving digestion make you that much healthier?
W: Sleeping on the left side does more than that. I think it’s good for health because it also helps blood circulation to the heart.
M:  That makes sense. I guess I should try it.

1 정답 ⑤
[Script & Translation]
W:  What are you doing, Paul?
M: I’m making a study plan for the midterm exams, Mom.
W:  That’s good.
M: My plan is to take a short break every hour and not stay up late at night.
W:  Sounds smart.
M: And I’m going to study only one subject a day, not several. I don’t want to mix them.
W: Are you sure about that? It can be refreshing for your brain to change subjects. It could be more efficient to study multiple subjects a day.
M: Oh, really? I thought it’d be better to just focus on one subject a day.
W: I can show you a news article I read about  focusing if you want. It says people easily lose focus when they try to do one thing for a long time.
M:  I can see that.
W: I think dividing up your time and working on multiple subjects during the day would be more productive.
M:  Okay. I’ll plan my studies with that in mind then.

[Script & Translation]
W: Mr. Anderson, our club members are really looking forward to the Respect Life Campaign this Saturday.
M: That’s good. How many of your club members are participating?
W:  Everyone. We’ve finished making our signs.
M: Great. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to campaign outside if there’s a lot of fine dust. I’m afraid it’ll be bad this Saturday.
W:  Really? But it’ll be difficult to reschedule it.
M: I understand. But the forecast says the fine dust will be very bad this weekend. It won’t be good for your

health if you stay outside.
W:  What if we all wear masks?
M: Masks don’t really help when you’re outside for hours and the fine dust is really bad. You’re going to run the campaign all day, aren’t you?
W:  Yes, we are. Can we do it indoors?
M: I guess that could be an option. Would you like to do that?
W:  I’ll talk to the other members and let you know.
여: Anderson 선생님, 우리 동아리 부원들은 이번 토요일에 있 을 ‘생명 존중 캠페인’을 정말 기대하고 있어요.

3 정답 ④
[Script & Translation]
W:  Hey, Jack, what’s that you’re writing?
M:  Hey, Miranda. It’s a feedback report for one of    my

coworkers. It’s a work requirement that we give feedback to each other.
W:  Is it helpful?
M:  Yeah. But it’s not easy to give negative feedback.
W:  What’s so difficult about it?
M: Well, I know that I should be honest, but I don’t want to hurt my coworker’s feelings.
W: If that’s the case, you should try to use verbs instead of adjectives.
M:  Can you be more specific?
W: If you use verbs rather than adjectives, it helps to make your feedback sound softer, and less like a personal attack.
M:  Can you give me an example?
W: For example, you can say “Sometimes you interrupt others and forget to ask for different opinions” instead of “You are sometimes bossy and controlling in team meetings.”
M:  I see what you mean. That’s a good idea. Thanks.

4 정답 ①
[Script & Translation]
W: Ethan, you should come and have one of these apples my grandfather grew.
M:  Wow, thanks! [Pause] It has a really unique taste.
W:  Yeah. It’s a new variety grown from imported seeds.
M: Oh. Your grandfather must pay a lot for imported seeds.
W: He does. He told me, though, that a lot of fruits and vegetables sold in our country are from imported seeds.
M: I heard about that. My biology teacher said that. That means if other countries stopped giving us their seeds, we’d have a problem growing food.
W: Yeah. That’s why we need to develop more domestic varieties of seeds.
M: You’re right. If we keep relying too much on imported seeds, our domestic food industry may become less secure.
W: So researchers here at home are trying to develop domestic seed varieties. I hope they succeed in doing that.
M: For sure. That’s really important for our future food supply.
W: If we develop and take ownership of more of our seeds, we can create more food security and pay less to other countries for their seeds.

5 정답 ②
[Script & Translation]
W: Look! Josh, I’ve never seen a store with so many pairs of jeans.
M: Me, neither. I have a trivia question for you. Do you know how much water it takes to make one pair of jeans?
W:  I have no idea.
M: For just one pair, it requires up to 10,000 liters of water.
W:  No way that’s true.
M: It is true. Maybe worse, the coloring used to dye denim jeans is toxic. And some of it gets into waterways.
W:  That sounds terrible for the environment.
M: It is. That’s why we need to cut down on purchasing so many jeans.
W:  But jeans are so popular.

M: I know, but every time we buy a pair of jeans, we’re harming the environment.
W: I always knew plastic bags were bad for the environment, but not jeans.
M:  So it’s important to be an informed consumer.

6 정답 ④
[Script & Translation]
W:  Honey, what are all these medicine bottles here for?
M:  I cleaned up  the medicine cabinet. I thought    you

might want to see them before getting rid of them.
W: All right, thanks. Let’s see. [Pause] Yeah, they’re all expired.
M:  Okay. I’ll throw them out then.
W:  You mean in the trash can?
M:  Yeah. Why?
W: We should take them to a place that has a medication disposal drop-off. The people there will dispose of them properly.
M: Oh, that’s a good idea. Earlier I just flushed a bunch of old pills down the toilet. That’s probably not good.
W: It’s not. The chemicals in the medications can end up in lakes and other water sources.
M:  That can’t be good.
W: So that’s why some places collect medications and safely dispose of them. That’s where we should take these.
M:  Okay. I’ll find out if there’s such a place near here.

M: Hello, visitors. Welcome to the Fisherman’s Village at Blue Island Harbor Park. I’ll be your guide for today’s tour. Before starting the tour, I’d like to remind you of one very important rule. When you walk around the village, you’ll see seals near the docks. A lot of tourists want to feed them, but please don’t. They may be cute, but if they get scared, they will bite, and they have very sharp teeth. Also, if they get used to people feeding them, they’ll stop hunting for wild food. This would negatively impact their survival ability in nature. Your cooperation will help protect you and these little creatures. Let’s start the tour!

W: Good morning, Westview County area listeners! My name is Alicia Jones, and I’m a 78-year-old Westview County resident. And guess what? Every morning I log onto my social media account and share the latest news with people all around the world. That’s surprising for someone my age, right? I learned how to do this in a communications technology class the community center offers for seniors. If you’re a senior, you too can learn how to use communications technology by registering   for a class at the center! There are classes on using a smartphone, creating and maintaining a social media account, exchanging messages on social media, sending emails, and managing and editing digital photos. Join a class today and learn a new skill! You’re never too old to learn something new. For more information, please visit the center website.

M: Good evening, parents and local residents. Thank you for coming to this evening’s annual public town meeting. I’m Allen Brewster, head of Cornhill High School security, and before we start the meeting I just have a quick announcement. As you know, the road to the main entrance of the school is really narrow. And when parents are dropping off and picking up their children before and after school, it gets really crowded with many cars and people. This can create a safety hazard for the students and local residents. As such, we’re planning to ask the city council to install traffic lights in front of the school. Before we do, we’d like to get your opinions  about it through an online survey. Please take a minute sometime to visit the school website and click on the link to take the survey. We’d really like to hear from you. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

M: Hello, listeners. I’m Daniel Brown from the Edmond Cancer Center. More and more people are being diagnosed with cancer nowadays, and many of them cannot afford the high cost of treatment. Edmond Cancer Center helps those people in need, and we have helped more than 2,000 cancer patients receive treatment. However, there are still a lot of people who need our help. So we’re desperately seeking donations and your support will make a huge difference to people who suffer from the financial difficulty of treating their cancer. If you can help, please call 604-537-2800. We’re waiting for your support. Thank you.

W: Hello, students. I’m Mrs. Jackson, the vice principal. The local education office has recently   announced a plan to promote students’ general health. As part of this plan, our school will be offering a new afterschool program that includes various fitness activities for you to participate in. Our program will offer lessons in yoga, Pilates, badminton, tennis and taekwondo. All the classes will be taught by professional instructors from our local education office and you can sign up for any class you want on the school website during next week. The classes will be closed when they’re full, so you have to hurry. I expect many of you to participate in the fitness program and stay fit. Thank you for listening.

M: Hello, everyone. I’m the student council president, Carl Sanders. I’m happy to talk with the student representatives in this forum today. Before we start, let me tell you why we’re here for discussion. Students started wearing uniforms when our school opened about 30 years ago. Since then, our students have been wearing the uniforms with pride and affection. However, recently, many students have been complaining that they feel too hot in their summer uniform and too cold in their winter uniform. Also, some students suggested that we change the current uniform design into something more stylish and comfortable. So today, we should discuss ways to improve our school uniforms to meet students’ needs while keeping our school traditions.

M:  Hey, Amy. What are you doing?
W: I’m listening to an online Korean course. I’ve got so interested in K-pop that I decided to learn Korean.
M: Cool! You’ve also been taking Chinese classes for years, haven’t you?
W: Yeah. It’s not easy to learn a new language, but  it’s so beneficial. I’ve been able to make friends with people from different cultures.
M: That’s so great. I think learning another language also makes you see the world differently.
W: Definitely. It really helps you understand and respect other cultures.
M: And I heard that learning a foreign language helps develop certain mental skills.
W: That’s right. Because our brains have to cope with the complexity of language, our cognitive thinking and problem-solving skills get better.
M: That makes me want to learn a foreign language, too.

W: Honey, I can’t believe Nina is going to enter middle school next week.
M: Yeah, time flies. She seems to be looking forward to it.
W: She’ll love her school life. Oh, I was thinking we should make a good place for her to study.
M: Great idea. That’d help her study better. How should we do that?
W: I think we should buy her a nice desk and a chair to help maintain good posture.
M: Okay. And we should get her a desk lamp. Oh, also, let’s replace the light bulbs in her room with brighter ones.
W:  Yeah, her room is not bright enough. And how about getting some plants? They can make the room feel fresher and help her focus better.
M: Great. I saw some nice ones at the store a few days ago.
W: Cool! And we also need to remove some things that could distract her from studying.
M: Right. Why don’t we ask Nina to keep her video game system in another room? That’ll help her concentrate on her studies better.

3 정답 ①
[Script & Translation]
W: Hello, everyone. Today, I’d like to tell you about one of the most important inventions in human history. This was invented to prevent diseases from widely spreading, and it is used all over the world.   Before it was invented, people would have to dig a deep hole to get rid of their body waste. Today, it  comes in various  shapes and  sizes around the  world, but it is commonly made of ceramic, concrete,  plastic, or wood. It can be with or without flushing water. It is found in homes, public restrooms, airplanes, and trains. However, some poor areas in developing countries still use unsanitary ones which are usually located outside. Can you guess what it is?

4 정답 ⑤
[Script & Translation]
M:  Mom, can I ask you something?
W:  Sure. What is it?
M: When I use the escalator, I should always stand on the right to let people in a hurry walk on the left, right?
W:  No. You can stand on either side.
M:  Wouldn’t that block people from walking?
W:  Actually, you’re not supposed to walk on escalators.
M:  You mean I shouldn’t move on  them? W: No. You shouldn’t run or walk for safety. M:  I see what you mean.
W:  And you should hold the handrail. It’s a lot safer.
M:  Good point. I’ll keep them in mind.

5 정답 ⑤
[Script & Translation]
M:  Hey, Shannon, come on in.
W:  Thanks for inviting me. Oh, you have parrots.
M: Yes. I got them from my next-door neighbor last year.
W: Aren’t they noisy? I used to have one, but I gave it away because I couldn’t stand its screaming.
M: Mine screamed a lot at first, but I’ve been training them and they’ve become much better now.
W:  Really? How have you done that?
M: When they start screaming, I leave the room and ignore them.
W:  That works for you? I tried that, but it didn’t work.
M: Another thing I do is take away their food when they scream a lot.
W:  And does it work?
M: Yeah. Parrots scream when they want attention and I control it through training.
W:  I understand. Good job!

6 정답 ⑤
[Script & Translation]
M: Hello, students! You may get angry when your friend shows up late for lunch. You may feel the same when your classmate refuses to cooperate in group projects. How do you usually respond in situations like these? You may have yelled at your friend or classmate, hurting their feelings. It’s important to deal with angry situations in a positive way. I’ll give you a tip. When you’re angry at someone, wait a while before you speak to the person. Take a few moments to collect your thoughts while waiting. Once you calm down, you can state how you feel clearly without hurting the person. Next time you feel angry, please remember this advice.

for your afterschool

activity?

W: I’m not sure, Dad.

M: What about taking a coding course?

W: A coding course? Why should I do that?

M: I think learning to code can give you

important skills for the future.

W: Oh, I remember my teacher saying that coding

is a skill that can increase the chances of

getting a job. But it sounds difficult.

M: It might be, but it can help you learn how

to plan and organize your thoughts.

W: Good to know. And I heard coding helps

with math. Right?

M: Definitely. Plus, it improves your problemsolving

skills.

W: Cool! I think I’m going to take the course.

5. [출제의도] 화자의 관계 파악하기

W: Hello, Mr. Williams.

M: Please come on in, Ms. Jackson. How are

you doing?

W: I’m good. Recently our company published

several books, so I’ve been really busy.

M: Oh, I hope you get some time off soon.

W: I hope so, too. Well, I’ve read your work, The

Great Man. I think you nicely expressed the

feeling of the original book.

M: Thank you. Which book will I translate this

time?

W: It is a novel written by a Spanish writer,

Isabel Martinez.

M: Sounds good. I’m so happy to translate the

book.

W: My boss said that the book needs to be released

by December. So, is it possible to get the first

M: No problem.

6. [출제의도] 그림 세부 내용 파악하기

M: Lisa, how’s the poster for our magic show

going?

W: I have changed a few things. Take a look.

M: Oh, I like the two birds at the top.

W: And I wrote the date and the time under

the title, Magic Show.

M: Nice choice. It’s more eyecatching.

W: What do you think of the rabbit in the hat?

M: I really like it. It’s so cute. And you put

the round table instead of the square one.

W: Yes, but I’m still not sure about the shape

of the table.

M: I think the round one looks much better.

W: Okay. And as you suggested, I drew a

magician holding a magic stick.

M: Nice. I think it’s perfect now.

W: Yeah, finally. Thanks for your help.

7. [출제의도] 화자가 할 일 파악하기

W: Chris, what are you doing?

W: Who are you interviewing?

M: The new English teacher. I’m going to interview

him tomorrow.

W: Do you need any help with the interview

questions?

M: No, I’m almost done. But I’m still looking for

someone to take photos during the interview.

W: Why don’t you ask Cindy? She’s good at

taking photos.

M: I already asked her, but she said she has

an important presentation tomorrow.

W: Well, how about Tom? He’s a member of

the photo club.

year’s camp.

again.

M: I’m afraid I can’t.

W: Why not? Do you still have ankle pain?

M: I’m still taking my pills, but don’t worry.

I’m fine.

W: Ah, you must have another family trip

scheduled.

M: No, not this time. Actually, it’s because of

my science project.

W: Haven’t you finished it yet?

M: I’ve already handed in the final report for the

project, but Mr. Miller said that I have to

participate in the National Science Contest

with it.

W: That’s great. You should definitely spend

M: It’s $30 for adults and $20 for children.

How many tickets do you need?

W: One adult and two children’s tickets, please.

I have a membership card. Do you offer a

the Plata Community Center. I’d like to tell

you about the upcoming Plata Tea Festival.

It’s an annual tea festival held at City Hall.

This year it’ll take place on September 5th and

6th. More than 20 tea companies will

participate in this festival. During the festival,

you can enjoy blind tea tasting and food

pairing events. Also, you can learn tea

etiquette from experts. The admission fee is

M: Julie, what are you looking at?

W: I’m thinking of buying a new handheld fan.

Can you help me pick one?

M: Sure. Hmm, how about this one?

W: It looks good, but I don’t want to spend more

than $30.

M: Okay. And I think you should get one with

a battery that lasts more than 8 hours.

W: I think so, too. I usually spend more than 8

hours outside.

M: What about the fan speed levels? Do you need

a fan with 4 levels?

W: No. Three levels will be enough for me.

M: Then you have two models left. I recommend

the foldable one.

W: What’s special about it?

M: If you fold the handle, it’ll easily fit into your

handbag. It can also stand up on your desk.

W: That sounds convenient. I’ll buy that one.

13. [출제의도] 대화의 적절한 응답 고르기

W: Hi, Andrew. I heard that your tennis club is

competing in the City Tennis Tournament.

M: Yes. We’ve been practicing a lot these days.

W: I’m sure you’ll do well.

M: Thanks. But our school tennis court is going

to be under construction starting next week,

so we won’t have a place to practice.

W: What about the community center? It has

several tennis courts.

M: We already checked. But all the courts are fully

booked.

W: That’s too bad. Oh, wait! My sister told me

her school tennis courts would be open to

the public starting this Saturday.

M: Really? That’s great news. Do I need a

reservation?

W: Yes. I remember she said that reservations

would start at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

W: Hey, Minho. What are you doing?

M: Hi, Mrs. Sharon. I’m writing an application

letter for college.

W: Can I take a look at it?

M: Of course. Please give me some advice after

you’re finished reading it.

W: Hmm.... You only listed the activities you’ve

done without being specific.

M: Yeah. Isn’t it good to include as many

activities as possible?

W: No. If you do that, your application letter

won’t be memorable.

M: But I thought if I wrote down a lot of

activities, I would stand out.

W: It’s actually the opposite. You should focus

on a few things and write about them in

detail.

M: I never thought about that. Do you really think

it’ll work?

W:

15. [출제의도] 상황에 적절한 말 고르기

M: Cathy and Brian are members of the same

orchestra. They are practicing together for the

upcoming concert. Lately, Brian doesn’t look so

good and seems to be unable to concentrate

during practice. When Cathy asks why, he tells

her that it’s because of his back pain. He sits

for long periods of time preparing for the

concert, so his back hurts. Cathy understands

his pain because she had the same problem last

year. However, after she started yoga, her back

pain disappeared. She wants to suggest to

Brian that he start yoga. In this situation, what

would Cathy most likely say to Brian?

16~17. [출제의도] 담화의 주제 파악하기, 언급되지

W: Hello, class! Last time we learned about LED

technology. I hope all of you have a clear idea

of what an LED is now. Today, I’ll talk about

how LEDs make our lives better. First, one of

the advantages of LEDs is the long lifespan.

LED bulbs are used in lamps and last for over

17 years before you need to change them.

Second, LEDs use very low amounts of power.

For example, a television using LEDs in its

backlight saves a lot of energy. Next, LEDs

are brighter than traditional bulbs. So, they

make traffic lights more visible in foggy

conditions. Finally, thanks to their small size,

LEDs can be used in various small devices.

Any light you see on a computer keyboard is

an LED light. Now, let’s think about other

products that use LEDs.

W: Yes, Dad. Look at that tree. There’s a squirrel.

W: I want to feed them. Is it okay if I share my sandwich with them?

M: Hmm... I don’t think feeding wildlife is a good idea.

W: Why do you think so, Dad? Isn’t giving food to them helpful?

M: No. If people feed wild animals, they’ll stop looking for wild food and they could lose their survival abilities in nature.

W: I didn’t know that.

M: Also, certain nutrients in human foods are harmful to some animals. This is another reason why we shouldn’t feed wild animals.

W: I guess giving food to wildlife is not as helpful as I thought.

M: That’s right.

W: I’ll keep that in mind.

W: Jack, I’ve been waiting with these clothes for you. You’re going on air in 30 minutes.

M: Sorry, Amy. It took longer than usual to organize the weather data and write my script for the weather broadcast.

W: I was worried you might be late for the live weather report.

M: I’m ready. What am I wearing today?

W: I suggest this gray suit with a navy tie.

M: Okay. I’ll go get dressed.

W: Wait. Put on these glasses, too. They’ll give you a more professional look.

M: Whatever you say. I can always count on you when it comes to clothing and style.

W: That’s what I’m here for. By the way, thanks to your weather forecast yesterday, I was prepared for the sudden showers this morning.

M: I did say there was an 80% chance of rain in the morning.

W: Yes, you did. Now, go get changed.

4. 대화를 듣고, 그림에서 대화의 내용과 일치하지 않는 것을 고르시오.

W: Hi, David. How was your picnic with your family on the weekend?

M: It was good. Do you want to see a picture I took?

W: Sure. [Pause] Wow, your son has grown a lot.

M: He sure has. He just turned 11 years old.

W: Time flies. The drone on top of the box must be his.

M: Yeah. He brings it with him everywhere.

W: I see. Oh, there are three bicycles.

M: Yes. We love riding bicycles these days.

W: That’s good. I like that checkered-patterned mat.

M: That’s my wife’s favorite pattern. Do you recognize that heart-shaped cushion?

W: Of course. We each got that cushion from our company last year.

M: Right. My wife loves it.

W: Me, too. Oh, I guess your wife did the bird painting on the canvas.

M: Uh-huh. We all had a great time.

M: Honey, I’m so excited about going camping tomorrow.

W: Me, too. I especially like our plan of watching a movie outdoors by the campfire.

M: Absolutely! I think it’s a great idea.

W: It’s going to be so romantic. Did you pack the projector and screen?

M: Of course. I’ve put them in the car.

W: Great. Thanks.

M: Shall we take some blankets just in case it gets cold in the evening?

W: I’ve already packed them in our luggage.

M: Good. Oh, we haven’t decided which movie we’re going to watch tomorrow. Could you pick one?

W: Sure. I’ll choose a movie.

M: Thanks. Do you know where the folding chairs are?

W: I think I last saw them in the trunk.

M: Alright. I’ll check when I’m putting the luggage in the car.

M: Hi. I need webcams for my son and daughter for their online classes. Which

one would you recommend?

W: This one is really popular among youngsters. It has a great design and

picture quality.

M: That model seems good. How much is it?

W: The original price was $70, but it’s on sale. It’s $60 now.

M: Nice! I’ll take two.

W: Anything else?

M: I also need a wireless speaker.

W: I recommend this one. The sound quality is good and it’s only $20.

M: Perfect. Then I’ll take that as well.

W: Do you also need two of these?

M: No. Just one is enough. I already have one speaker at home.

W: Okay. Also, this week, we’re having an autumn sales event. With any purchase

of $100 or more, we’re giving a $10 discount to customers.

M: Great! Here’s my credit card.

W: You know we’re having a farewell party for our boss, Miranda, next Friday,

right?

M: Yes. The party is at 7 p.m. at the seafood restaurant downtown, isn’t it?

W: That was the original plan. But I changed the place.

M: Oh, really? Didn’t you say that restaurant is known for their great service

and reasonable price?

W: Yeah. That’s why I booked a table there. But I changed the place to the

Italian restaurant near the seafood restaurant.

M: I guess you did that because Miranda loves Italian food.

W: She does, but she also really likes seafood.

M: Then, why did you change the place?

W: I found out that some of our coworkers have seafood allergies.

M: Oh, that’s why. By the way, Janet from the sales department said she wanted

to come.

W: Great! I’m sure Miranda will be happy to see her.

W: That sounds like a really good cause. Are you going to sign up?

M: Yes. Are you interested?

W: Maybe. When is it?

M: It’s on Saturday, September 19th. The event will run from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

W: That’s good. I’m free, then. Where will it be held?

M: It’ll take place at Magic River Park.

W: Oh, I often walk my dog there. Is there a participation fee?

M: Yes. It’s $5. If you would like to join, I’ll send you the link to the website,

M: Well, I’ve been looking up crayon sets on the Internet. Do you want to see?

W: Sure. [Pause] How many crayons do you think are enough?

M: I think 48 crayons are too many for a six year old.

W: I agree. But I also want to spend more than $10 on our granddaughter’s present.

M: Definitely. Do you think she needs washable ones?

W: Yes. That way Emily can wash off crayon marks if she gets them on her hands.

M: I see. Look. Each set comes with a free gift.

W: Oh, that’s right. Which one is better for her, a sharpener or a coloring book?

M: I think the coloring book is better because she likes to collect all kinds of

coloring books.

W: Right. I really think she’s going to love our present.

M: Then, it’s settled. Let’s order this one.

don’t have any plans. Why?

M: I was thinking about going to a cooking class at 5 p.m. Do you want to come?

W: A cooking class? Isn’t cooking difficult? I’m already stressed out from doing

my homework.

M: Well, actually, I recently read an article that said cooking is very effective in

relieving stress.

W: What do you mean?

M: When you cook, the smell from the food you’re making can help you feel

relaxed.

W: I can see that. The smell of a freshly-cooked meal calms me down.

M: That’s what I mean. Also, when you eat the delicious food you make, you’ll

feel happy.

W: That does sound appealing. Perhaps it’ll help me take my mind off schoolwork.

M: Exactly. You should definitely come with me.

M: Okay. Are we taking the bus?

W: We have two kids with us and the museum is pretty far from the restaurant.

Let’s drive.

M: But it’ll be hard to find a parking space at the museum today. There are so

many visitors on the weekend.

W: How about using an app to search for parking lots near the museum?

M: Is there an app for that?

W: Yes. The app is called Parking Paradise. It helps you find and reserve a

parking spot.

M: That’s cool! Have you tried it?

W: No. But I heard that it’s user-friendly and convenient.

M: It sounds handy. Let me find the app and download it.

W: Okay. Can you find a parking space while I get the kids ready?

[3점]

W: Andrew is preparing to sell his used things at his school festival next week.

Andrew gathers all the stuff that he wants to sell and asks his mother, Jane,

what she thinks of his selections. Jane looks through the items and notices

that some of them are old and in poor condition. She thinks that Andrew

shouldn’t take such worn-out things to the festival because people won’t be

interested in buying them. So, Jane wants to suggest that Andrew should

only pick out the ones that are in fine condition. In this situation, what would

Jane most likely say to Andrew?

[16~17] 다음을 듣고, 물음에 답하시오.

M: Hello, students. Last class, we discussed the harm caused by insects. Today,

we’re going to learn about the advantages that insects can bring us. First,

honeybees play a crucial role in the reproductive process of plants by helping

them to produce seeds. In the U.S., the honeybees’ assistance in this process

accounts for about $20 billion in crops per year, including fruits and vegetables.

Second, insects like grasshoppers are a major food source in the world because

they’re high in protein and low in cholesterol. In Mexico, for example, you can

easily find fried grasshoppers sold in village markets. Next, silkworms are

responsible for producing most of the world’s silk, which is recognized as a

valuable product. In China, silkworms produce approximately 30,000 tons of

raw silk annually. Finally, fruit flies have been used by many researchers in

genetic studies. Fruit flies are practical test subjects for such studies due to their

short lifespan. Now, let’s watch some video clips to help you understand better.

W:Hello, students! I’m Ms. Smith, director of the school media center. As some of you already know, a student’s online ID got stolen and misused last week. So, I’d like to remind you of one thing about the use of school computers. When you check your e-mail or use social network services using the school computers, be sure to log out before you leave. If you forget to log out, someone else can access your data on websites or, even worse, they can steal your personal information. Protect your privacy online, and the first step is to click the log-out button.

W:Do you have any good suggestions to deal with stress at work?

M:For me, making some changes to my desk helped me.

W:Changes to your desk? Tell me more.

M:I decorated my desk with some plants and photos of my family.

W:But aren’t they a bit distracting when you have to focus on your work?

M:I don’t think so. Actually, I feel they bring my stress level down.

W:Sounds great.

M:Go for it. Decorating your desk can help you reduce your stress at work.

W:That’s included in your ticket. It’s on the 3rd floor.

W:Let me check. [Typing sound] I’m sorry, but it’s fully booked for today.

W:I see. Who is the girl standing in front of the piano? She’s playing the violin.

M:Her name is Alice. I practiced a lot to harmonize with her.

W:You look so cool singing and playing the guitar in the center.

W:Is there anything I can help you with?

W:Regular bicycles are five dollars each. How about a bicycle with two seats for you and your wife?

M:That sounds perfect. How much is it?

W:It’s ten dollars.

M:Then, I’ll rent two regular bicycles for my kids and one bicycle with two seats for me and my wife.

W:Well, I don’t think gray would be a good match with the wallpaper in her room.

M:I agree. Hmm.... Isn’t spending more than 100 dollars on curtains a little too much?

W:Absolutely. Expensive things aren’t always better.

M:Then we have three choices left. What about the patterns?

W:I think natural patterns such as flowers or stars will be good.

M:Hello, parents! I’m John Brown, a professor of mathematics at Pacific University. Today, I’d like to give you some tips to help your children learn math in a fun way. First, use the things around you. You can give them a handful of tiny things like beans and let them count. You can also ask them to compare the numbers of pictures on the walls in each room of your house. Second, play board games with your kids. Board games with two dice instead of one can be a good way to learn basic addition. Third, make math an enjoyable daily activity in real life. For example, at the grocery store, ask your kids how many apples they could buy with ten dollars. With this kind of activity, they can learn how to apply basic math to real life. By following these three tips, you can help your children enjoy learning math early in their lives.

can be helpful for your study.

M: Do you think so?

W: Yes. The more you explain something to

others, the more deeply you can understand

its meaning.

M: You mean the more I teach, the more I learn?

W: That’s right.

M: Well, then, I’ll join the program.

W: Good. I’m sure it’ll be a great experience for

you.

5. [출제의도] 대화자의 관계를 추론한다.

W: Excuse me, Mr. Young. I’m Emma Baker.

M: Oh, hi Emma. I’ve been waiting for you. Nice

to meet you.

W: Nice to meet you too.

M: Is this your first visit to a broadcasting

station?

W: Yes, it is. I’ve been looking forward to seeing

the news studio myself.

M: I see. You seem to be very interested in

broadcasting.

W: Yes, I’m the leader of my school’s

broadcasting club.

M: Oh, you are? Today, you’ll sit at a news desk

and experience what it’s like to host a news

program.

W: Fantastic! I watch your news program every

day. How can you deliver the news so

effortlessly?

M: I read my scripts repeatedly before I begin

the broadcast.

W: That’s impressive. I really want to host a

news program like you someday.

M: I hope you will. Shall we go to the news

studio now?

6. [출제의도] 그림과 대화의 일치 여부를 파악한다.

M: Joy, I’m excited to be in the theater.

W: I really wanted you to see this play, Daniel.

M: Thanks for bringing me here. By the way, the

stage set looks a little strange.

W: This set shows two different living rooms.

One on the left and the other on the right.

M: Oh, now I understand. The left living room has

striped wallpaper.

W: Yes. There’s a bookshelf in the left living

room, next to the door.

M: Oh, but the right living room has

flowerpatterned

wallpaper.

W: Yeah. Can you see the rectangular mirror next

to the window?

M: Yes, it matches the room. And there are two

telephones, one at each end of the sofa.

W: This play is about a long telephone

conversation between the two living rooms. So

the title is On the Line.

7. [출제의도] 대화자가 부탁한 일을 추론한다.

W: Alex, let’s go for lunch.

M: Sorry, but I don’t have time, Kate.

W: What’s keeping you so busy?

M: I’m working on our company’s monthly

newspaper.

W: When’s the deadline?

M: Today. I’m doing the final job of matching the

articles with the photos, but there’s a problem.

W: What is it?

M: I don’t have any photos of Mr. Williams’

retirement ceremony.

W: Really? I’ve got some photos I took at the

ceremony with my digital camera.

M: Oh, what a relief! Can you send me the photo

files?

W: Sure. I’ll email them right after lunch.

M: Thank you so much, Kate.

M: Hi, Claire. How did your chemistry

presentation go?

W: It went better than I expected.

M: Good. You look a little tired, though.

W: I didn’t get enough sleep last night, but I’m

okay now. You know we have a badminton

lesson today, right?

M: Yes, but I don’t think I can come.

W: Oh, does your left ankle still hurt?

M: No, I’ve fully recovered.

W: Then, why?

M: Actually, I got a flu shot this morning.

W: I see. I once had a terrible muscle ache after

a flu shot.

M: Well, anyway, I’ll skip the lesson and get

some rest today.

W: Okay, take care.

9. [출제의도] 수치를 파악한다.

M: Welcome to Mary’s Gift Shop. How may I help

you?

W: Hi. I’d like to buy a cup for my friend’s

birthday.

M: How about this pumpkinshaped

cup?

W: It’s so unique. She’ll like the design. How

much is it?

M: It’s $20.

W: Okay, I’ll take it. And I’d also like to buy

these teaspoons. How much are they?

M: They’re $10 each.

W: Okay. I’ll take two pink ones and two blue

ones.

M: Then, one pumpkinshaped

cup and four

teaspoons, right?

W: Yes. Can I use this coupon that I downloaded

from your website?

M: Sure. You’ll get a 10% discount off the total

price.

W: Great. Here’s my credit card.

10. [출제의도] 세부 사항의 언급 여부를 파악한다.

M: Hello, Dr. Peterson. How are you doing these

days?

W: Hello, Dr. Collins. Good, I’m working on the

Dream Bio Research Project.

M: You mean the medical research project

sponsored by the government?

W: That’s right. More than 20 researchers are

involved in the project and I’m the head

researcher.

M: Wow, you’re in charge of a really big job.

How big is the budget for the project?

W: We’re allowed to spend one million dollars on

the project.

M: That’s a really huge amount. It’s a project to

develop a new drug for lung cancer, isn’t it?

W: That’s right.

M: How long will the research project last?

W: It’s a 5year

project. I hope we can develop

the drug within this period.

M: I wish you success, Dr. Peterson.

W: Thank you, Dr. Collins.

11. [출제의도] 담화 내용과의 일치 여부를 파악한다.

W: Hello, students. Are you interested in reading

books? Then, join this year’s Marathon

Reading Program. In this program, students,

teachers, and parents will read books until late

at night on the 5th of April. It starts at 2

p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. The program will be

held at our school library. You can bring your

own book or check out one at the library.

After they finish reading their book, all

students are required to write a book review.

Snacks and beverages will be provided. Don’t

forget to bring some warm clothes in case it

gets cold at night. You must sign up for the

program by this Friday.

12. [출제의도] 표를 보고 선택한 것을 찾는다.

M: Ms Sanders, are you buying something online?

W: Yes. I’m trying to buy a portable speaker and

microphone set. Can you help me choose one?

M: Sure. Let’s see.... There’s a wide range of

prices.

W: Well, I want to buy one that’s less than $100.

M: All right. I think running time is also

important. What do you think?

W: I agree. I’d like to choose one that can last at

least 10 hours after a full charge.

M: I see. What about the color?

W: Well, I don’t like the grey ones.

M: That leaves only two options. Do you want a

model with a clip microphone?

W: Of course. It’ll keep my hands free.

M: Then, this model is the best one for you.

W: Okay. I’ll order it. Thanks for your help.

M: You’re welcome.

13. [출제의도] 대화에서 적절한 응답을 찾는다.

[Telephone rings.]

M: Hello, Diamond Sports Center. May I help

you?

W: Hello. I’m a member of your sports center and

I want to know if I can suspend my

membership.

M: Okay, would you tell me your name?

W: I’m Katie Walker.

M: [Typing sound] Yes, I see you have an annual

membership for swimming classes. You mean

you can’t come for a while?

W: That’s right. I broke my arm yesterday.

M: Oh, I’m sorry. You can put your membership

on hold for up to 60 days.

W: That’s good.

M: When do you think you can start taking

lessons again?

W: I’ll be able to start again after a month.

M:

M: Hi, Lucy.

W: Hi, Eric. Look. This is my painting for our art

club exhibition next week.

M: Wow, it’s really nice. The spring scenery

looks so beautiful.

W: I painted it during my family trip last week.

M: You’re a really good artist.

W: Thank you. Are you done with your painting?

M: Yes, I completed and hung it on the wall in

the exhibition room.

W: Great. How about the other members? Have

they all finished their art work?

M: Not yet. And we won’t be able to see Jake’s

painting this time.

W: I know. I heard his whole family is moving to

Canada this Friday.

M: So we need to find someone who has an extra

painting to fill up his space.

W:

15. [출제의도] 상황에 적절한 말을 찾는다.

M: Ryan is a high school student. He is running

for president of the student council this year.

He needs to come up with some appealing

campaign promises. He thinks one of the

promises should be related to improving the

facilities for students. So, Ryan discusses it

with one of his campaign staff, Amy. He asks

her what school facilities need improvement.

Amy suggests promising to replace all the

student lockers. Ryan agrees, but he thinks

they should check if the school can do it. In

this situation, what would Ryan most likely

say to Amy?

[16 ~ 17]

W: Hello, everyone. Today, let’s learn about some

details about the Olympic Games. As you all

have learned, the first Olympic Games were

held in Athens, Greece, in 1896, and there

were nine sports events in total. The events

in the Olympic Games have been changed

through the agreement of the IOC members.

For example, soccer made its first appearance

at the second Olympic Games and was

excluded in the 10th Olympic Games. The fate

of tennis is more interesting. Tennis was one

of the nine sports events in the first Athens

Olympic Games, but it was excluded from

1928 to 1984 and then revived at the 1988

Seoul Olympics. The 1936 Berlin Olympics

became the first to introduce handball.

However, handball disappeared from the

Olympics and later was revived at the 1972

Munich Olympics. Taekwondo made its debut

in the relatively recent Sydney Olympic Games

in 2000. Overall, the number of sports events

in the Olympic Games has gradually increased

through some additions or exclusions.
