4. 대화를 듣고, 여자의 의견으로 가장 적절한 것을 고르시오.

W: Andrew, you look unhappy. What’s wrong?

M: Hi, Ms. Benson. I’ve been trying this chemical reaction experiment again

and again, but it’s not working.

W: Why isn’t it working?

M: I don’t know. Maybe I don’t have much talent for chemistry.

W: Don’t be so hard on yourself.

M: So what should I do?

W: I believe that the path to success is through analyzing failure.

M: Analyzing failure? What do you mean?

W: By examining what went wrong in your experiment, you can do it right.

M: Hmm. You mean that even though my experiment didn’t work, I can learn

something from failure?

W: Exactly. If you figure out how and why it didn’t work, you can succeed at

your experiment.

M: Now I understand. I’ll review my experiment. Thanks.

W: I can’t wait to see it. I’ll take some pictures for you since it’s your first

W: Okay. And I think your sons also need safety equipment.

M: They already have elbow and knee pads. So, they only need helmets. How

much are helmets?

W: They originally cost $20 each. But we have a promotion this week. So, you

creative reuse. It gives new life to old objects. The workshop will last three

days, from November 23rd to 25th. It’ll run from 1 to 4 p.m. The workshop

will be held in the seminar room. And we have a special treat this time. The

you’ll remake plastic bags into rugs and old shirts into hats. All materials

are provided. And there’s no participation fee. The workshop is open to

people 18 and older. We’re looking forward to seeing you.

12. 다음 표를 보면서 대화를 듣고, 여자가 구매할 도마를 고르시오.

M: Welcome to Camilo’s Kitchen.

W: Hello. I’m looking for a cutting board.

M: Let me show you our five top-selling models, all at affordable prices. Do

you have a preference for any material? We have plastic, maple, and walnut

cutting boards.

W: I don’t want the plastic one because I think plastic isn’t environmentally

friendly.

M: I see. What’s your budget range?

W: No more than $50.

M: Okay. Do you prefer one with or without a handle?

W: I think a cutting board with a handle is easier to use. So I’ll take one with a

handle.

M: Then, which size do you want? You have two models left.

W: Hmm. A small-sized cutting board isn’t convenient when I cut vegetables.

I’ll buy the other model.

M: Great. Then this is the cutting board for you.

W: Honey, what did the doctor say about your neck?

M: She said that it’s not too bad. I just need to take these pills and get enough

rest.

W: I’m relieved that it’s not so serious.

M: But there’s a problem. The doctor said I shouldn’t drive after taking the

medicine. It can make me very sleepy.

W: Oh, no. What about your business trip on Monday?

M: Exactly. I’m supposed to drive my team members since I know the area.

W: You cannot drive. It would be very dangerous.

M: Maybe I’ll skip the medicine before I drive.

W: Wouldn’t it delay your recovery and even make your neck pain worse?

M: Yeah. I do need to take the medicine regularly.

W: Then one solution would be to see if somebody else in your team can drive

instead of you.

M:

14. 대화를 듣고, 남자의 마지막 말에 대한 여자의 응답으로 가장 적절한 것을 고르시오.

say?

M: It mentions that the leading actors are geniuses and that the musical is

W: Wow, I really can’t wait to see it.

M: Actually, I’ve seen it already. Since you haven’t watched the musical, I

recommend you read the original novel first.

W: Why do you say that?

M: The storyline is complicated. In my case, reading the novel first helped me

fully understand and better enjoy the musical.

W: Then, I need to get a copy of the book.

M: I have one. I can lend it to you if you want.

W:

15. 다음 상황 설명을 듣고, Steve가 Cathy에게 할 말로 가장 적절한 것을 고르시오.

in translation and has volunteered as a translator before. So she’s happy

when she finds a translation club at her school. To enter the club, she must

write a self-introduction letter. However, she’s not satisfied with the letter

she wrote. She remembers that her older brother Steve has lots of

experience writing self-introduction letters. Cathy asks him for advice

about her self-introduction letter. Steve thinks the letter doesn’t focus

enough on what she did as a volunteer translator. So Steve wants to suggest

to Cathy that she emphasize her volunteer work related to translation. In

this situation, what would Steve most likely say to Cathy?

16번부터 17번까지는 두 번 들려줍니다.

[16~17] 다음을 듣고, 물음에 답하시오.

W: Hello, students. Previously, we discussed traditional foods in different countries.

Today, I’ll talk about surprising birthplaces of everyday foods. First, people

believe the Caesar salad is named after a Roman emperor. But a well-known

story is that the name came from a chef in Mexico. He created it by putting

together some basic ingredients when running out of food. Second, bagels are a

famous New York food. But they’re likely from central Europe. A widely

repeated story says that they were first made in Vienna to celebrate the defeat of

an invading army. Third, many people think kiwis are from New Zealand. It’s

probably because a small flightless bird from New Zealand has the same name.

In fact, the food is from China. Last, if there’s any country known for potatoes,

it’s Ireland. That’s because crop failures of this food caused extreme hunger in

Ireland in the 19th century. However, the food is believed to come from South

America. Now, we’ll watch a short video about these foods.

find out what this year’s students would like to do. Therefore, he wants to

suggest to Julia that they should hear from the students about their

preferences. In this situation, what would David most likely say to Julia?

M: Good morning, everyone. Last class, we learned about different kinds of

musical instruments around the world. Today, we’ll talk about a variety of

materials used to make them. One common source of materials is different

parts of animals. For example, in China, a wing bone from a large bird was

made into a flute about 8,000 years ago. Another example of making musical

instruments from animals comes from Mongolia. There, people made a

stringed instrument using animal skin around a frame and horsehair for the

strings. In another part of the world, people in Nigeria dig out clay from the

ground to make a traditional drum. The entire process of making this musical

instrument takes around a month. Lastly, in Australia, the material of choice is

hardwood from local trees. It’s made into a type of wind instrument by the

native people there. Now let’s take a look at some photos, and then we’ll

discuss them in detail.

4. 대화를 듣고, 남자의 의견으로 가장 적절한 것을 고르시오.

M: Ji-na, what are you reading?

W: Hi, Mr. Brown. It’s an English book titled The Global Economy.

M: That sounds difficult.

W: It is. I spend so much time looking up new words in the dictionary.

M: Hmm. You should choose a more level-appropriate English book. You’ll be able to read faster without distractions.

W: That makes sense. But I thought I would learn English better if I read

difficult things.

M: Well, when learners read English books that are too hard, they get

exhausted and give up their studies easily.

W: So, do you mean I need to read something that’s not so hard?

M: Yes. Reading at an appropriate level is more enjoyable and motivates

learners to keep going.

W: I see what you mean.

M: Why don’t you drop by the library and choose an English book that’s

appropriate for your level?

W: I think that’s a good idea. Thank you, Mr. Brown.

5. 대화를 듣고, 두 사람의 관계를 가장 잘 나타낸 것을 고르시오.

W: Welcome back! Next, we’re very excited to have today’s special guest. Will you please welcome Jack Wilson?

W: I’m flattered, Jack. So, I saw your magic performance at the theater a few

days ago. It was amazing!

M: Yeah. More than 500 people came to see it. I had a wonderful time.

W: Now, we all know making things disappear is your specialty.

M: That’s right.

W: Can you tell us how you make huge things like cars disappear?

M: Well, I can’t reveal my secrets, but it’s not as easy as pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

W: Come on! Can’t you share just one little trick with us?

M: Alright, then. Just one. I’ll show you a magic trick with coins.

W: Great! When we come back from the break, we’ll learn a coin trick from

Jack Wilson. Stay tuned!

W: You know, Joshua loves the elephant between the lion and the panda.

M: Does he like the mobile hanging from the ceiling, too?

W: He does. The children made it together.

M: They did a wonderful job. That toy dinosaur next to the bookshelf looks

good.

W: Oh, I put it there because the children have been learning about dinosaurs.

M: That sounds fun. There are two boxes under the Christmas tree. What are

they for?

W: They’re presents for the class. We’ve got some candies for the kids.

M: Aha. The Christmas tree is decorated so nicely. The star on top of the tree looks very pretty.

W: Thanks. The meeting will start soon. Let’s go upstairs, Mr. Smith.

M: I know. Have you prepared everything that we need to record his play?

W: Well, I’ve packed the video camera in that bag over there.

M: Great. How about an extra memory card?

W: Oh, right. We’ll probably need another one to record the whole play.

M: Better safe than sorry.

W: That’s right. I’ll go find one. Did you pick up Tony’s costume yet?

M: Alright, I’ll take two of them. And I’d like to pick up something for my

friends, too.

W: How about these animal key rings? They’re five dollars each.

M: They’re nice. I’ll take six of them.

W: Okay. Anything else?

M: That’s it. Can I use this coupon I picked up from the hotel?

W: Yeah. That gives you 10% off the total price.

M: Wonderful. Here’s my credit card.

10. 대화를 듣고, World Furniture Expo에 관해 언급되지 않은 것을 고르시오.

W: Honey, I think it’s time to replace the kids’ beds. They’re too small for the kids.

M: Right. We should buy a new kitchen table, too. Ours is too old.

W: I heard the World Furniture Expo starts soon. Should we go there?

M: Yeah. That would be a good place to compare the quality and prices of the furniture. When is it?

W: It’s from September 16th through the 18th. And it’s not far from here.

M: That’s good. Where is it?

W: It takes place at the Central Exhibition Center.

W: Nice. Let’s make plans to go!

M: Welcome to Jay’s Lighting Store. How may I help you?

W: I’m here to look for a floor lamp for my living room.

M: Here, take a look at this catalog. We have five models you can choose from.

Are you looking for anything specific?

W: Yes. It shouldn’t be too short. I’d like to get one that’s taller than one

hundred and thirty centimeters.

M: Then how about these four models? Would you like LED bulbs?

W: Yes, I would. They last longer than standard bulbs.

M: And they save energy. I definitely recommend LEDs. What’s your price

range?

W: Well, I don’t want to spend more than fifty dollars.

M: Then you have two options left. Which color do you like better?

W: Hmm..., I’ll go with the white one.

M: Good choice. Would you like to pay in cash or by credit card?

M: Really? I think there was some kind of misunderstanding. I thought we

were supposed to meet here at 12:30 this afternoon.

W: We were going to, but we changed the date because we needed more time

for individual work.

M: Huh? No one told me about it.

W: Don’t you remember? We decided that in class last Friday.

M: I wasn’t there, Cindy. I stayed home sick.

W: Oh, no! That’s right. You were absent last Friday when we changed the

date! I was going to call you after school, but I forgot.

W: Sarah and Brian are university classmates. Sarah wants to be a teacher and

is interested in helping others. She plans on finding volunteer work to

contribute to the community while getting teaching experience. However,

she’s not sure what kind of volunteer work she can do. Brian is a volunteer

mentor at a local community center. He feels that his students are learning a

about her plan and asks him to recommend some volunteer work for her.

Since Brian finds his volunteer work rewarding, he wants to suggest to

[16~17] 다음을 듣고, 물음에 답하시오.

M: Hello, class. Last time we learned about insects, their life cycles and what they

eat. As you know, many insects get food from flowers, but they aren’t the only

creatures that do. Today, we’ll learn about a variety of animals that use flowers as a food source. First are hummingbirds. These birds use their long narrow beaks to get the flower’s sweet liquid called nectar. Mysteriously, they only feed from upside down flowers. We still don’t know why. Next are bats.

Although most bats eat insects, some get their food from flowers. These bats have a strong sense of smell and sight compared to insect-eating bats. There are also lizards that drink nectar. These lizards are found on tropical islands that have few natural enemies. Finally, there is a type of squirrel that feeds from flowers. Most nectar-drinking animals help flowers grow in numbers, but these squirrels often harm the plant. When drinking nectar, they bite through the flower, which causes damage. Interesting, huh? What other animals use flowers in their diet? Take a minute to think, and then we’ll talk about it.

W: I feel a little uncomfortable making a birthday wish list.

M: But it can keep you from getting presents that you don’t want or need.

M: Well, I’m afraid I can’t go.

W: Why not?

M: I have to work in the school library tonight.

that information is reliable. But Ms. Green is aware that information on the

Internet is not always accurate. So, Ms. Green wants to tell Steven to check

whether the information he finds on the Internet is correct. In this situation,

what would Ms. Green most likely say to Steven?

W: Good morning, Healthy Life listeners! A drop in temperature signals the start of cold season. Today, I’ll introduce some foods to get you through a cold. Ginger is an effective treatment for colds. This amazing root can offer relief by making the body warmer and by attacking the cold virus. Mushrooms contain important vitamins, fiber and minerals. They enhance the activity of the white blood cells involved in protecting us from colds. Mushrooms also help activate superhero cells that find and destroy infections. Spinach is loaded with nearly every vitamin you can think of. Adding more spinach to your diet can improve overall bodily health, which will help you recover quickly from a cold. Yogurt is filled with good bacteria, called probiotics, which keep bad bacteria from

increasing in number. These good bacteria can support the immune system and help prevent secondary infections from a cold. I hope you find this information helpful with cold season approaching. Have a good day.

W: Justin, how’s your speech coming along?

M: I don’t think it’s going so well, Ms. Jones.

W: What’s wrong? I know you’ve been working really hard.

M: I think the script and the visual aids are good, but something about my delivery is still awkward.

W: Have you considered recording a video of yourself practicing your speech?

M: No, I haven’t. Why?

W: Seeing how you deliver your speech can help you correct your weak points.

M: How can it help?

W: When you watch a video of yourself giving the speech, you can see what kinds of gestures you make and hear how you sound.

M: Oh, you mean that I can fix something strange in my delivery if I see myself do it on video?

W: Exactly! You can improve your delivery through this method.

M: Thank you. I’ll try that now.

5. [출제의도] 화자의 관계 파악하기

M: Excuse me, are you Anna Zimmerman? I can’t believe I’m seeing you here!

W: Oh, hello. Have we met before?

M: No, but I’m a big fan of yours.

W: Thank you. I love meeting my fans.

M: I just finished your latest book, The Beautiful Days. I read the whole thing in a day.

W: I’m flattered. What did you like most?

M: I really liked the part where Emma and Jason first dance.

W: That’s my favorite moment, too. It took me more than two weeks to write that chapter.

M: Wow! It was worth it. It was so beautifully described. I hope this book

will be made into a movie.

W: I’m so glad you like it that much.

M: I think you’re one of the best novelists

in the world. Can I get your autograph, please?

W: Sure.

6. [출제의도] 그림의 세부내용 파악하기

M: Hey, Vicky. Looks like your club’s face painting booth is ready for the school festival.

W: I just finished it. Please have a look.

M: Okay. [Pause] You chose the roof with a striped pattern. I love it.

W: Thanks. What do you think of the banner between the poles?

M: The one that says “face painting” on it? It looks really nice.

W: I wanted our booth’s activity to be really clear. I designed it myself.

M: Really? You did a great job. Oh, there’s one round table in the booth.

W: Right. That’s where we’ll do face painting. We also have two stools next

to the table. Do you think it’s enough?

M: It looks like it’ll be enough. That’s a nice photo frame outside the booth.

W: Yes. I want visitors to take photos of themselves there.

M: Cool! It’ll be a great place to record memories of the festival.

W: I think so, too. I hope many students visit my booth.

7. [출제의도] 화자가 부탁한 일 파악하기

M: Good morning, Ms. Stevenson.

W: Hi, Minsu, how’s your group project going? I heard that you’re sending books to Nepal.

M: It’s going well. We bought Korean folk tale books, and we’re translating them into English.

W: Are you going to remake the books in English?

M: No. We’re planning to put the translations next to the orignal text.

W: That sounds really difficult.

M: It is. But thanks to a translation app, we’ve been able to finish our first draft.

W: That’s good! Does that mean you’re almost ready to send the books?

M: Actually, that’s why I came to see you. We’re not sure if our English translation sounds natural. Would you mind checking the first draft of our translation?

W: No problem. I’m happy to help you. When do you need me to finish by?

M: Well, we’ll package the books next month.

W: If you email me the translation this week, then I’ll give you the feedback by the end of this month.

M: Thank you so much.

8. [출제의도] 이유 파악하기

W: What a cute dog! Is it yours?

M: Yes. I adopted him from an animal rescue center.

W: I’ve always wanted a dog. But I can’t have one.

M: Why? Are you allergic to animal hair?

W: I’m only allergic to cat hair. Dogs are totally fine.

M: What’s the problem, then? Your house has a big backyard, so I think it’s a perfect place for dogs.

W: I think so, too. It’s a really dogfriendly environment.

M: Do your parents not like dogs?

W: No, they love dogs. But I’m worried about a dog being alone during the day.

M: Is there nobody who can look after a dog?

W: There is no one at home during the day.

My parents work, and my brother and I go to school.

M: Oh, I see. That’s why you can’t get a dog.

9. [출제의도] 지불할 금액 파악하기

W: Hi. How can I help you?

M: I’m looking for vegetable seeds for my garden. Can you recommend some vegetables that are easy to grow?

W: Sure. How about lettuce or tomatoes?

M: How much are they?

W: Lettuce seeds are three dollars for one packet, and tomato seeds are four dollars for one packet.

M: Sounds good. I’ll buy two packets of tomato seeds.

W: Okay. Do you need anything else?

M: I also need fertilizer.

W: I’d recommend this liquid fertilizer. It’s

one of our best sellers.

M: How much is it?

W: It was originally ten dollars a bottle, but

we’re offering a 30 percent discount on

this fertilizer.

M: Great! I’ll take one bottle. Here’s my

credit card.

M: Katie, what are you doing?

W: I’m looking at a brochure for the World Food Festival. Do you remember the event I talked about before?

M: Yeah. You said we can enjoy different types of foods from around the world. Where will it be?

W: It’ll be held at the central park in Orange County.

M: That’s not far from here. Is it on a weekend?

W: Yes. It’s on Sunday, September 22nd and starts at 10 a.m.

M: I’ve never been to a food festival before. What kind of programs does this one have?

W: There are tasting events for foods from all around the world and a variety of folk shows. Would you like to go with me?

M: I’d love to. [Pause] Hmm... we should probably drive there. Will there be

parking available?

W: The brochure says there will be a parking lot. It’ll cost five dollars to park there for the whole day.

M: Perfect! Let’s take my car. I’ll pick you up.

W: Okay. I’ll see you then.

W: Hello, everyone. I’m Jessica Parker. Today, I’m here to tell you about the Arusha National Park Tour. It’s a oneday tour program. This park is situated between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. You can enjoy breathtaking views of lakes and mountains. Also, you can see diverse wildlife such as monkeys,

buffalos, and elephants. At 7 a.m., you will be picked up at the East entrance of the park to begin the tour. The dropoff

location will be the same as the pickup location. The tour ends around 9

p.m., but that may change based on weather conditions. I hope you won’t

miss this tour.

12. [출제의도] 화자의 선택 파악하기

M: Honey, what are you looking at?

W: A website that sells air fryers. I want one so we can cook more healthily.

M: Good idea. We can fry foods using less oil if we buy one. How much do you think we should spend?

W: Well, I don’t want to spend more than 100 dollars.

M: Okay. Then how about these models?

W: Hmm... it’s safer to buy one that will turn off if it gets too hot.

M: You’re right. Let’s choose one with the automatic switch off function.

W: What about capacity? My friend bought one that could only hold two liters. She regretted not buying a bigger one.

M: In that case, we should get one with a capacity of at least four liters. Now we have these two to choose from.

W: They both look good. But I think the one with the longer warranty is better.

M: I agree. Let’s order this one.

13. [출제의도] 대화의 적절한 응답 고르기

W: Hey, Brian, are you eating chocolate again? You’ve been eating a lot of

chocolate these days.

M: Yeah, but I can’t stop. I eat sweets whenever I’m stressed.

W: What’s going on?

M: I’ve been busy preparing for my final exams, and I have too many assignments.

W: I understand. But eating sweets doesn’t really help relieve stress. It does more harm than good.

M: I know. Do you have any idea about what I can do instead?

W: Maybe you can try walking or stretching. Those have helped me a lot.

M: Really? That sounds like a better way to deal with my stress because it’s

healthier.

W: Definitely. Physical activity will be much more helpful than eating chocolate.

M:

W: Jay, why do you look so annoyed?

M: I’ve been surfing the Internet, but there are so many ads.

W: What kinds of ads?

M: Popup advertisements. Whenever I open

a new website, ads pop up. It takes a lot of time for me to close all of them.

W: That used to happen to me, too. Maybe I can help you.

M: Is there a way to stop them?

W: I’m using a program that blocks popup advertisements.

M: Is it difficult to use?

W: It’s very simple and easy. Just install a popup blocker on your computer, and it’ll prevent ads from popping up.

M: That sounds good. But what if I can’t see important popup

messages that are not advertisements?

W:

16~17. [출제의도] 담화의 주제 파악하기, 언급되지 않은 내용 파악하기

W: Hello, students. As you all know, heavy traffic is a major source of air pollution. To tackle this problem, many European cities are taking various actions. For instance, in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, large parts of the city have been closed to vehicles for decades, and the city plans to become carbon neutral by 2025. Also, Paris, in France, bans cars in many historic districts on weekends and encourages carand bikesharing

programs. In Belgium, the city of Brussels operates “Mobility Week” to encourage public over private transportation. And for one day every

September, all cars are banned from the entire city center. Lastly, cities in

Germany are establishing “green zones” in city centers. If vehicles don’t have a sticker showing they have an acceptable emission level, they can’t enter those places. Now, I’ll show you some pictures that illustrate this.
