W: Well, the first candidate promises to make the school festival the best. And the second candidate’s promise is to extend gym hours.

M: Good morning, students. This is Principal Bernard. I’m pleased to announce that, beginning next month, we’ll begin using a new visitor management  system in our school to improve the safety of students and staff. The new system will enhance the way we screen visitors to our school and thus provide everybody with a safer environment. Upon entering the school, visitors will be asked to present a valid ID and we will check to make sure they don’t  have a criminal record using a national database. Once their entry is approved, we’ll issue them a visitor’s badge with the date and the purpose of visit on it. Please visit the school website for more information. By introducing this new system, I’m sure our school will be a safer place for you. Thank you.

W: I don’t think so. It’s easier to focus more on the class because you’re not getting distracted by other students.
M:  You have a point there. But I usually sit in the back.
W: I get too relaxed if I sit in the back. And I often end up losing focus on the teacher.
M: That’s true. That happens to me, too. Do you really think I’ll be able to concentrate better if I sit in the front row?
W: Definitely! What else can you do when the  teacher is right in front of you?

W: I know. But she said the shelter is having major electrical problems, and it’ll be closed for a while for repair.
M:  Oh, that’s too bad.
W: I think we need to tell the students and their parents about this.

W:  Ah, you’re right.

W: Great. It’ll be held at the State Science Center on Park Street.
M:  Okay. Who is the competition for?
W:  It’s for high school students. About 30 students  will participate in it.

W:  That’s not good. Have you asked them why?
M: Yes, I have. They don’t think they’re good at singing. But I think they just lack confidence.
W:  It sounds like they need to boost their confidence.
M: Yeah, because they’re not as bad at singing as they think. And I’m sure they’ll improve with more practice.
W: Maybe they feel uncomfortable practicing with everybody because they think they’re not good enough.
M:  Right. That’s the heart of the problem.
W: Why not ask them to practice with just you after school?
