M: Hello, visitors. Welcome to Lembar Temple. I’ll be your guide for today’s tour. I’m really excited to show you around the temple, which is one of the six key temples representing ancient Asian architecture. Before we enter the temple, I’ll introduce a few rules that you must follow when inside it. All visitors must wear a sarong, which is a traditional Malaysian piece of clothing. You’ll be given it at the entrance and you can just put it on over your clothes. Also, using portable fans and wearing sunglasses are prohibited. I’m sorry for any inconveniences this may cause, but it’s important to respect the local culture, so I hope you understand. If you have any questions during the tour, don’t hesitate to ask me. Let’s get started!

W: Hello, listeners. I’m Vanessa Anderson with One- Minute Living, where I give you useful home, school and work tips. Everybody knows the importance of recycling paper. But did you know that not all types of paper can be recycled? So before just throwing all of your paper together to get recycled, make sure it can actually be recycled. First, avoid folding paper too much. If it’s been folded too much, it can’t be recycled. Also, some paper like napkins and receipts cannot be recycled. So throw them away in the regular trash. And some paper has sticky glue on it. In order to have it recycled, you must remove the glue from the paper. Follow these tips to make sure you’re recycling the right way. Join me tomorrow for more tips on living healthy.

M: Hey, Justine.
W: Hey, Mark. What are you looking at?
M: Some old paintings.
W: I know they’re paintings of fruit, but are these watermelons and bananas? They look so different from ones today.
M: Yeah they really do, don’t they? They’re early watermelons and bananas. Over time, humans developed new breeds, like the good-tasting ones we have today.
W: Amazing! I thought fruits had always been the same. M: Actually, in the past, a lot of plants we eat nowadays weren’t even edible. They were just wild plants.
W: Oh, so really it’s changing plant breeds that has changed what humans can eat.
M: Yeah, but not just whether something is edible or not. Changing plant breeds has also increased the nutrients in food.
W: I had no idea about that.
M: So people around the world have always been trying to develop new, better crops.
W: Oh, I see. From now on, whenever I eat fruit, I’m going to wonder what it used to look like.

W: Hello, everyone. I’m Jenny Phillips, host of People
& Economy. Today’s topic is social media. Although it can be a useful tool, there are downsides of using social media for businesses. First, managing social media accounts, including responding to feedback, requires a lot of resources. This can mean having to hire and train new employees. Producing social media content, such as advertisements and videos, can be costly. Also, relying so much on social media can be impersonal. Using it to push for sales without engaging with customers may turn off people who want a more personal relationship. Keep all these in mind when building your business.

W: Lucas, Mr. Johnson’s not in yet. Does he have a business trip today?
M: No. He had to take the day off because he caught the flu. He has to stay home and rest.
W: That’s too bad. Do you think he got sick at work?
M: Maybe. The air in the office is very dry. We should get some plants.
W: Plants would be nice. I read they can help keep rooms more humid.
M: We could use them! It’s so dry in here.
W: I know. My skin is always dried out and itchy after working all day at the office.
M: Me too. I was thinking plants would be good to regulate the temperature.
W: Oh, yeah! They do both. Rapid changes in temperature can weaken your immune system, so plants are helpful there too.
M: I’ll suggest getting some office plants for our health at our next team meeting.
W: Great.
여: Lucas, Johnson 씨가 아직 보이지 않네요. 그가 오늘 출장

W: Luke, I noticed you didn’t take many notes in chemistry class today.
M: I could barely hear the professor from where we were sitting in the back.
W: Really? I was able to hear him.
M: I just feel like my hearing has been getting worse recently.
W: Maybe it’s because you always listen to your music so loud. I think exposure to high volume is the most common cause of hearing loss.
M: I don’t think it’s that loud.
W: Really? You always have the volume up so high that I can hear the songs you’re listening to. That may cause a hearing problem.
M: You can? I’ve just gotten so used to the volume that I didn’t even think it was that loud.
W: Your ears must’ve adapted to the high volume, which is why you’re having trouble hearing.
M: That makes sense.

W: Good afternoon. What can I do for you?
M: Hi. I need some help in starting my new business around here.
W: You’ve come to the right place. What area do you have in mind?
M: I’d like to rent in the Stonebridge neighborhood.
W: We have lots of office spaces for rent there. About what size are you looking for?
M: Something around 33 square meters.
W: Okay.
M: And I’d really like something near the subway station.
W: All right. And what is your price range?
M: I’m hoping to find something less than $1,000 a month, including utilities.
W: Let me check on our rental website. [Typing sound] Here we go. There’s one available in the Pine Building. Would you like to go take a look at it?
M: Sure.

M: Wow! These are amazing!
W: Thanks. Is this your first visit?
M: Yes. I’ve never seen an exhibition like this.
W: Many visitors say that. If you have any questions about my work, let me know and I can answer them.
M: Good. Actually, I’m wondering what inspired you to carve soap this way.
W: Well, I thought it’d be a good material to use to express the passage of time.
M: I see. That explains why most of your pieces are reproductions of ancient remains.
W: Right. I want to convey that like those things, my works don’t lose their value over time.
M: Oh, I saw some soap sculptures in the bathroom. Are they yours too?
W: Yes, I put them there to be used by the gallery visitors.
M: I see. Thanks for your kind explanation.
W: My pleasure!

W: Hi, Justice. I texted you a picture of the poster I made for our concert a few minutes ago. Did you get it?
M: Yeah. I like it. I’m looking at it.
W: That’s good. Should I keep the concert title, Poems with Music, at the top?
M: Yeah. It looks good there.
W: Okay. Do you think the guitar is too big? It takes up almost the entire left side of the poster.
M: I think it’s perfect. I wouldn’t want it any smaller. And I like three birds sitting on musical notes below the concert title.
W: I just added those right before I texted you.
M: And I love your idea of drawing the bench with a girl who is reading a book on it.
W: That represents the poetry reading in our concert.
M: Great idea.
W: And I put the time and place below the bench. What do you think?
M: Looks good to me. Great job!

W: What are you looking at, honey?
M: A picture from Brian. He just got back from a family trip. Come here and look at this.
W: Oh, it was a good idea to watch a movie outdoors during the trip. I like the screen right on the outside of the camping car.
M: Yeah, isn’t it cool?
W: Yeah. The ball-shaped light bulbs hanging from this line are really cool, too.
M: Look at Brian and his wife standing below the bulbs.
They look so happy.
W: He’s putting his arm around his wife’s shoulders. So sweet!
M: Yeah. And I think it was a good idea to bring folding chairs. Their three kids are watching movies on them.
W: Oh, I love the campfire next to the kids. I’m sure they really loved this trip. Someday we should plan a trip like this with our kids.
M: Definitely! I’ll ask Brian about where they booked their trip.
W: Sounds good!

W: Dad, where are we going for Grandpa’s 80th birthday next Sunday?
M: I’ve booked a party room at Parkview Restaurant.
W: Oh, good. A lot of relatives are going to be there, right?
M: Yeah, pretty much all of them are coming. They
were all excited when I sent out invitations. Even Aunt Maria is coming from Sydney.
W: Really? Does Grandpa know?
M: No. He’s going to be so surprised. She’ll get here this Friday. I’m going to pick her up at the airport.
W: Can I go with you? I’d like to welcome her there.
M: Sorry, but I don’t think so. When her flight lands, you’ll still be in school.
W: I see. She’s staying with us, right?
M: Yeah. In your room, if you don’t mind.
W: Of course I don’t mind. Then I’ll have to clean up my room.
M: That’d be great. While you are doing that, I’ll get some clean bed sheets for your aunt.
W: Okay.

M: Honey, how are your feet feeling from all the walking we did today?
W: Much better. Soaking them in warm water was a good idea.
M: That’s good. We plan on doing a lot of sightseeing again tomorrow. Will you be okay?
W: Well, I’m a little worried. My shoes are so uncomfortable.
M: It’s too bad you didn’t bring your other pair.
W: I know. I just completely forgot to pack them.
M: Why don’t you buy some new shoes tomorrow morning? I’m sure there’s a shoe store near our hotel.
W: Okay. We’re going on a traditional market tour tomorrow morning, aren’t we?
M: Yes. It’ll start at 10:30.
W: Then we don’t have much time to shop for shoes before that. We should figure out where there’s a shoe store now.
M: I’ll do that on my smartphone for you. Just get some rest.
W: That’ll be great. Thanks.
