W: Mr. Johnson, how are the Children’s Book Week preparations going?
M: They’re going well. For the signing events, I’ve already contacted the authors.
W: That’s great. Did you finish the advertising preparations I asked for?
M: Yes. I made fliers for the events and printed them out.
W: Great. I also think sending text messages to our members will help.
M: No worries. I’ve done that, too.
W: Okay. Do you remember the discount event? If customers buy one book, they get another for 50% off.
M: Yes, I do. You said you would decide which books would be part of the event.
W: Right. Here’s the list of the books. The next step is displaying them for the discount event. Would you like to do that?
M: No problem. I’ll do it.
W: Thanks. Then I’ll order some gifts for the events.

W: Paul, are you ready to go hiking up Baraboo Mountain today?
M: Yes, I am. But the problem is the weather forecast says it’ll rain there today.
W: Oh, really? It’ll be dangerous in the rain. The rocks will be slippery. It might not be a good idea to stick to our plan.
M: That’s what I thought. Then let’s do it another time.
여: Paul, 오늘 Baraboo 산으로 하이킹을 하러 갈 준비가 됐니?

W: Good morning. How may I help you?
M: Hi. I’m having problems using this camera I bought here last week.
W: All right. What seems to be the problem?
M: I think the memory card that came with the camera is bad. It’s not saving any pictures I take.
W: I see. Can I take a look at your camera?
M: Sure. Here you go. I can’t believe I lost all of the pictures I took. They were of my son playing in the basketball finals.
W: I’m sorry to hear that. Let me check a few things. [Pause] Oh, yeah. It’s the memory card. It’s defective. I’ll exchange it for a new one. Did you bring your receipt?
M: Yes. Here it is.
W: All right. Here’s a new one. And I’m truly sorry about that.
M: That’s okay. It’s not your fault.

W: Andy. Check out this photo from last weekend at my grandparents’ farm.
M: Okay. [Pause] Oh, cool. You’re on a horse wearing a cowboy hat.
W: Yeah, that was my first time!
M: Nice! So is this man your grandpa?
W: Yes. He’s holding the horse for me.
M: It must have been fun. Is this man in the back near the fence with a hammer your dad?
W: Yeah, he’s fixing the fence. And here’s my grandma, sitting under this cow.
M: Oh, she’s milking the cow.
W: Yeah. She’s been doing that every day for decades. M: What’s your brother Tony doing behind the cow? W: He’s holding some grass to feed the cows.
M: It looks like he had a good time, too.
W: He sure did.

M: Hey, Cathy. Congratulations on winning the webtoon competition!
W: Thank you. I still can’t believe I won.
M: I can! You’re a great drawer and storyteller.
W: That’s flattering, but there were a lot of really skilled webtoon creators who entered.
M: Don’t be so humble! I wish I could draw as well as you.
W: It only takes some practice and careful attention to small details.
M: You make it sound so easy. Have you been working on any new webtoons?
W: Yes. I’m going to post them on my blog soon.
M: Oh, I didn’t know you had a blog.
W: I just recently made one. But I’m still working on it.
M: That’s cool. Can you text me your blog address?
W: Sure. I’ll let you know when it’s finished.
M: Thanks.

M: Amber. If you’re free after work, how about having dinner together?
W: I’m sorry, Daniel. I can’t. I’m going to meet Ms.
White tonight after work.
M: You mean our boss?
W: That’s right.
M: I thought you’d already talked to her about the company newsletter.
W: No, it’s not about that.
M: Well, are you meeting about work?
W: No. While on our business trip last month, we found out that we had a common interest in dogs. And she invited me to a dog-owners group meet-up.
M: That’s cool. I’m sure you’ll be able to meet a lot of dog lovers there.
W: I hope so. I want to make some new friends with similar interests. That’s why I’m going.
M: Sounds interesting. I hope you have a great time there.
W: Thank you.

W: Hello. What can I help you with?
M: Hi, I’m looking for a couple of pairs of headsets.
W: Okay. What will they mainly be used for?
M: Mostly for playing computer games. My sons love playing computer games.
W: All right. Here we have corded ones and cordless ones. Which type would you like?
M: A cordless one would be better.
W: Okay. I recommend this one. It’s great for gaming.
M: How much is it?
W: It’s $70.
M: Not bad. I’ll take two of them.
W: Okay. They require AA batteries, which aren’t included. We sell battery chargers and rechargeable batteries.
M: I already have a battery charger. But I could use some batteries.
W: All right. This 8-pack of rechargeable batteries is originally $16, but it’s on sale for 50% off.
M: Great. I’ll take one pack. Here’s my credit card.

W: Dan, where are you going?
M: I’m going to the swimming pool to prepare for the lifeguard training course.
W: Aren’t you too young to apply for the course?
M: No. I’m seventeen and the age limit is fifteen.
W: Oh, I thought it was nineteen. Don’t you have to pass a basic swimming test first to take the course?
M: Yeah. That’ll be easy.
W: Then after completing it, do you become certified as a lifeguard?
M: Yes. The certification is valid for 2 years. But I can renew it by taking a review course.
W: I see. How long is the course?
M: It’s a total of 24 hours. They teach how to prevent and respond to water-related emergencies.
W: How much is the training course?
M: It’s $200. But, with the certificate, I can work at public beaches and water parks. So it’s definitely worth it.
W: Yeah, that sounds good. Good luck!
M: Thanks.

W: Hello, listeners. I’m Sophia Brown from Forest Park Rangers. To celebrate Earth Day, we’re hosting Family Volunteer Fun Days. It’s a five-day event from June 6th to the 10th, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. During the event, bring your family down to the Central Square area to walk around and maintain the numerous beautiful gardens. You should wear boots and long pants as some areas are wet. Also, due to the expected hot weather, bringing some water is highly recommended. Snacks like cookies and some fruit will be provided for free. And volunteers under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Don’t miss out on this fun family event!

M: Hi, Agnes. What are you working on?
W: Hi, Charlie. I’m preparing some teaching materials
for my class.
M: You’re teaching a class?
W: Yeah. I’m volunteering at the local community center. I’m going to start teaching a basic computer programming class for senior citizens next week.
M: That’s cool! It’s a great fit for you since your major is computer programming.
W: I’m looking forward to it. But I’m not sure if I can teach well.
M: Don’t worry. Of course you will. You already have some good teaching experience.
W: Right, but only with young students. Have you ever taught adults or senior citizens?
M: Yes, a couple of years ago. I taught an Italian language class for seniors.
W: Oh, then you must know how to teach older learners.
Is there anything helpful I should know?
M: Well, it’s important to understand that they need more time to process information compared to young learners.
W: Then I’d better slow my teaching pace down.

M: Hello, everyone. Last class, we covered the importance and benefits of sports in our lives. For centuries, people have been participating in sports not only for individual enjoyment and health but also for peaceful international relations. Today, we’ll look at some sports that have been around since ancient times. Most of mankind’s earliest sports evolved out of early human survival skills. In that sense, running is believed to be the world’s oldest sport. It was actually the only sport in the first Olympics, in 776 B.C. Wrestling is also one of the oldest sports, and it was an event in ancient Olympics as well. Its origin can be dated back to about 15,000 years ago. Swimming is another ancient sport. This is shown in prehistoric drawings. Lastly, hockey is considered one of the oldest sports. Images of people playing with a curved stick and a ball have been found dating back to 600 B.C. Now, take a look at the screen to see some pictures of these images.
