W:  I did. I’ve already finished developing a  recipe. M: That’s great. Actually, I gave up participating in it. W:  Why? Is your arm still hurt?
M:  No, it’s fully healed.
W:  Is your recipe not ready yet?
M:  I already created a unique recipe for the contest.
W:  Then, what made you give up the contest?
M: You know I’ve planned to study abroad. The cooking school in Italy just informed me that I’ve been accepted. The problem is I have to leave before the contest begins.
W: I’m sorry you’ll miss the contest. But it’s good for you since you’ve always wanted to study in Italy.
M:  I think so, too. I wish you luck in the contest.
W:  Thanks. I’ll do my best.

W:  I got us tickets for the charity baseball game!
M:  Awesome! That was so much fun last year.

M: I’m so happy you got tickets for this year’s game.
When is it?
W:  It’s next Saturday afternoon.
M:  Oh, no. I won’t be able to make it then.
W:  You’re kidding me. Why is that?
M: Remember I told you that my company is going to launch a new product next month?
W:  Yeah, I remember.
M:  I have to work at the commercial shooting site.
W:  I understand. It’s your job.
M: I’m so sorry not to go with you. I hope we can go next time.

W: Hi, Eric. Not bad. All the actors are comfortable with their roles. And the costumes arrived yesterday.
M:  Great. When is the final rehearsal?
W:  Next Friday.
M:  Do you have a lot left to do as a stage manager?
W:  I’ve got most of it done, but I’m thinking of  adding a few more lights on stage.
M:  How are you going to get the stage lights?
W: I’m going to borrow them from Blue Bay Theater Group.
M: Oh, you worked there last year as a make-up assistant, right?
W: Yes. It was a great opportunity. I was able to learn about stage management.
M: That’s cool. When are you going there to get the lights?
W:  Later today.
M:  Oh, I see.

M:  Mom, what’re you watching on TV?
W:  A  science fiction  movie.  Come watch  it  with me.
This new big screen TV is amazing.
M: Sure. [Pause] Mom, did you press any button? Why is the screen black?
W:  No, but just wait. It’ll probably come back on.
M: Hmm.... It shouldn’t do that. There must be something wrong with the TV.
W:  It happened this morning, too.
M: Really? We’ve only had it for two days. We need to exchange it.
W:  But I don’t think we can exchange it.
M:  Why not? We have the receipt, right?
W: Yes, but we bought one of the store display models. Store display models are not exchangeable at the store.
M: Oh, that’s too bad. Then we should probably take it to a repair service center.
W:  Yeah, I’ll call first.

[Script & Translation] [Cell phone rings.] M: Honey, what’s up?
W:  Are you on your way home?
M:  Not yet. I’ll be leaving in a minute though.
W:  You must have been busy today.
M:  Yeah, I had a long meeting with a client.
W: I see. I was wondering if you’d be able to get a cheesecake at the bakery near your office.
M:  What for?
W: Daisy and her classmates are here working on their science project, and I just thought that cheesecake would be a nice reward after. The bakery’s cheesecake is the best.
M: They would love it, but unfortunately I won’t be able to get one.
W:  Why? Do you think they’re sold out?
M: Actually, the bakery is closed this week for remodeling. Do you want me to buy a cheesecake from another bakery?
W: Oh, no. [Pause] Never mind. I’ll bake some cookies instead.
M:  That’s a good idea.

M: Hi, Jane. Have you registered for courses for next semester?
W:  Yes, I have. How about you?
M: I’ve registered for most of them. But I’m still trying to decide whether to take advanced math or not. I’ve heard it’s really hard though.
W: I understand your dilemma. I’m going to take physics next semester, even though I know it’s going to be difficult.
M:  What led you to make such a decision?
W: I’ve decided to major in robotics at college, and physics is essential to study robotics.
M: I see. It’s good that you’ve decided what to major in at college.
W: What about you? Weren’t you thinking about statistics?
M: Yeah, but then I’d have to take advanced math next semester, and if I get a bad grade, I may not get into a good university.
W: Personally, I think you should choose courses based on what you want to study in the future, not just focusing on getting into a good university.
M:  Okay. I’ll keep that in mind.

M:  Hi, Linda. It’s cold today.
W: Hi, John. Yeah, it’s really windy, too. You must’ve been pretty cold riding your bicycle to school.
M: Actually, I didn’t ride my bicycle today. I came by bus.
W:  Really? Has your knee started bothering you  again?
I hope not.
M:  No, my knee’s fine.
W: That’s good. Then why didn’t you ride your bicycle today? You usually do.
M:  Well, you can’t believe this.
W:  What is it?
M:  I forgot my bicycle lock combination.
W:  Oh, no!
M: I know. I got a new lock last weekend, and I  created a new combination, and I completely forgot it. So I can’t unlock my bicycle.
W:  You should have written it down.
M:  Yeah, I should have done that.
